It's just strange. So much term. And they've got Keith at 5.5 mil for 2 seasons too!

Holland must be feeling the pressure to act sooner than later to keep McDavid happy. And as a result made some very stupid moves

Just an FYI, Keith played the most TOI/g for all Hawks defenders.

2nd most for:
EV/TOI GP
PP/TOI GP
PK/TOI GP

Hawks also dealt the Zadorov their 3rd. leading TOI GP to the Flames.

Replaced them with: Seth Jones and Jake McCabe.

Keith at 5.5 might be steal considering the idiocy going on in the market, and he can probably drop down to 20 minutes a night.

An unfortunate update on the recovery of Edmonton's Oscar Klefbom.
Sounds like Klefbom might be done, so his 4.1 might be LTIR until it runs out.

That doesn't mean he played well in that time though. Playing so much time would suggest he factored heavily into Chicago being one of the worst defensive teams in the league over the last few years.

And now he'll be 2nd. pairing defender probably where he should have been.

Now without looking who was he playing in front of last year? Who was the keeper?

I just find something off about Edmonton letting Darnell "Chris Pronger" Nurse leapfrog Leon Draisaitl on their own cap structure in alignment with Werenski and Jones.

Timing.
Look at McKinnon in Colorado.

However, I just find giving him 9.2 questionable, regardless of who is on his team.

They couldn't sign him for less? That's just outrageous, I've watched a lot of him, and he isn't as bad as Leafs' fans suggest, but he certainly isn't as good as this contract suggests.

Holland know something we don't about rule changes coming?

it was either overpay him or he'd walk as a ufa at the end of this season

Oilers cap situation is really ugly next year. It's not a deep enough team that they can afford to go over the cap and not accrue space for the deadline so they have to be under including Klefbom's $4.1M cap hit.

Chicago has been horrible in allowing goals against, but even worse in team defensive metrics, so I don't think you can just point to the goaltender.

Yep.

#4-6 D men contracts this offseason have been way bigger than expected. So much for the Covid salary pinch.

There wasn't a single contract for 2 mil or less that I'd take over Holl

It seems that price of defense is going up even from 3rd dman to 5th, seems like top4 dman starting to cost at least 4mil / piece if they aren't younger players or prospects. Meaning top4 that you can play in any situation and don't have to think about matchups. Just reliable minute eaters starting to have steep prices. I think that wasn't surprise for Dubas and that's why he kept Holl.

Pelech isn't a #4-6 D. He's top pairing shutdown.

Among the 53 defencemen who played over 50 games (he played all 56) with at least 18 minutes per game at ES, there were only 6 who were on for fewer goals, one of them his partner.

Not offensive, but one of the best defensive defencemen in the league. Under 6M per year is very good, and ties him up to age 34.

Rangers re-sign Shesterkin for 4 x $5.66 or so… certainly a promising tender but that is steep considering he’s still relatively unproven

With the inflation we've been seeing on a lot of high end defensemen and now some goalies, it's like the GM's are forgetting there's a flat cap.

The Rangers management team seems to have been massively downgraded from Davidson and Gorton to Drury and friends.

What's worse about all of this is these same GMs will be crying to the media in a few years about how unfair it was that they "had" to give out these boat anchor contracts.

I’m kind of curious where this cap inflation within a flat cap leaves the league in a couple of years time. A lot of those teams with oodles of cap space are suddenly bloated. Not a lot of Seattle’s or Arizona’s out there anymore. Or even Colorado’s.

Jumbo Joe signing in Florida and not a peep around HFBoards. No mocking the GM, the team or the City.

When jumbo was signed in TO, pages upon pages of mocking drivel.

The hypocrisy rears it’s ugly head again.

it’s only news if it happens to the Leafs.

then they mock us as “centre of the universe”. Meanwhile they can’t fart without thinking about Dubas.

To be fair, he did sign there likely as a depth forward who plays half the games, while he was 1st line winger here beside two of the best talents in the game. LOL

Makes you wonder if Dubas was that desperate to sign him, so he promised Jumbo all those things.

For real… I hope Dubas is at least doing some preliminary contract talks to get an estimate.

Rielly is no doubt better than Nurse in my mind. Only one year older, so I’m sure Mo can use 9+ mil as a ballpark amount if he wants to. And honestly, if that’s the price I hope he’s moved.
If management is feeling pressured to win some rounds in the playoffs (which they should be), then I expect Dubas to let Rielly play out the season without giving him a new contract (he would have to take a pretty big discount in order for us to have enough cap room to resign him). If things have gone bad by the trade deadline, then I would expect Rielly to be traded. But if we are in a good position, say goodbye to more draft picks, then hope and pray we can win a few rounds.
