Asking in the first place is already at the line, if not over. If I went in to work tomorrow and my boss said my team was going to sit down together and look at each others personal photos on our phones, I would absolutely not be participating in that, and I would probably go to HR if for no other reason than to let them know that's going on in case it escalates from there (intimidation, retaliation, punishment, etc). It's entirely inappropriate and not relevant or necessary to the job these guys perform.

If he wanted everyone to get to know each other better, he could have done it in so many better ways. Hell back when I started college the RA's for my floor handled it better than that, and they were just 20-21 year olds. Make it a social event, get everyone together to do something fun, and any information anyone wanted to share is volunteered only.
It's not uncommon for an employer to ask for photos because of some event the employer wants to do, it usually comes with a detailed use explanation of what they hope to accomplish team-wise, and it's usually a "general" request, not a personal face to face request and is always purely voluntary, stated clearly as such.

Again, I'm not against the "ask" just the method of "how" it was asked.

I've never had an employer ask me for any personal photos off my phone

I have had multiple employers ask for photos, that is the ask I have no problem with. I have never been asked face to face to look at my phone so they could display family photos, that is the how I disagree with.

I think we're on the same page here on this.

I've never had an employer ask me to share anything that personal before. Thankfully the type of work I do, I can't see it ever happening. Can't imagine there is one single guy on my crew would do anything other than look at the supervisor like their head was on fire if they did.

Pictures were always a general request sent via email saying what they wanted to do with them and why, usually to honor groups of people or team build etc and has always been 100% voluntary. I have never actually supplied any pictures requested in any of these instances and have never felt like it was ever necessary to begin with. Zero pressure requests with no consequence for not participating.

It usually doesn't have anything to do with the type of work you do, as the goals aren't related directly to work itself, other than to have feel good things going on to just keep good general morale etc.

Babcock's method was asinine.

The article doesn't mention swastikas, unless I missed it.
Sorry, the reports seem to be all over the place with what was graffitied on the center. One article I read said swastikas, this one says other things:

This report seems to be the most in-depth:

It was genitalia and a homophobic slur, not a Swastika, according to the article. Being that it was a Jewish Resource Center, it makes the offense slightly less sinister, but still brain dead beyond belief.

If he transferred, would he be able to play at the new school? Would that be up to the new school? If his collegiate hockey career is over, that's a painful lesson. Hopefully one he's learned from.

I believe it would be up to the school he transferred to, though I have a hard time seeing any college allowing him to play

Part of the deal with being a student athlete is that you are a salesman for the school. What school would want this guy to represent them?

Johnny Druskinis (University of Michigan) caught spray painting swastikas on a Jewish resource center.

There goes your career, kid. Before it even started.

It´s like Mitchell Miller all over again. That son of a bitch is going to play in Slovakia this season, btw.

Does anybody know how Toronto is going to get under the cap when the season starts?

Their LTIR only brings them to -$2.9 million.

Most TOR cap friendly teams have them waiving Jones and Lafferty/Timmins and adding the kid that's on IR to LTIR. That's about as far as I care to look at TOR teams on that platform.
