Any chance the league will go with top 4 in each division making the playoffs and ditch the wild cards going forward when the "normal" divisions return? I would love a straight divisional playoff till the conference finals to be a permanent thing.

That's exactly where it's going once Seattle joins. Although I'm a fan of the old 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7 etc.

Yikes. Not a good look for the Habs to hire Sean Burke. A simple google search would have helped them but I guess they don’t really care too much.
What’s wrong with Sean Burke?

I notice the Avalanche have really not lived up to expectations this year.

Their secondary players have been pretty dissapointing. Kadri, Saad and Donskoi have all played better hockey than what they are playing now. Kadri has been Kerfoot-esque but with more goals scored and more goals against. Not ideal 2nd line C on a contender, I would argue.

The crazy thing is they've been getting very good goaltending.

Grubauer is pretty good. Underrated for sure. Though I think they’re suffering a bit of the same of kind of hangover Toronto had in 2019-20 to start the season when they had so much hype attached to them.

The Avalanche cup projections are basically predicated on having young superstar talent at forward and defense, plenty of cap space in the offseason, an overrated run in the playoffs vs weak competition like Arizona, and suffering massive injuries last season in the bubble.

Logic is if their stars keep growing linearly, if they spent their money on upgrades and stayed healthy, surely they’d be even greater.

Doesn’t look like that’s happened. Guess they can’t handle strong competition from Minnesota.

Last year the avs seemed to have every player setting personal bests in p/60 no matter who was injured and plugged into the lineup. Lots of luck going on there.

In general though their forwards are imo overrated - guys like Landeskog and Kadri imo shouldn't be core scoring forwards on a contender. Meanwhile their bottom 6 depth has all come crashing back down to earth offensively after last year's weird boom year.

That being said - Makar-Girard-Toews is as good an offensive 3-punch on the blueline as you'll find.
