Hot damn, the Islander fans are one crazy, angry bunch!

Our Leafs should just forfeit the only game against the Islanders in NY on February 28, 2019.

Booing Tavares is fine, but threatening to throw objects, and urine, at Tavares on the streets, and on the ice, is not.

The Islander fans need to realize that their own team's management, past and present, are much more to blame than Tavares. It was well known when he was drafted that his dream was to be a Leaf! Maybe a trade might have worked any time between 2009 and now.

Their management should never have let him get to free agency either! He should have been locked up early, like a year ago!

I agree with Vegas but Tampa also worries me.
Sharks might be the team to do it. If they were willing to give JT 13plus for 7 yrs. They can do the same for EK.
Would be funny if half the deals involve the draft picks Sharks got from the Hoffman deal.

Are you serious? Those guys got NTC's? so in other words, Benning was willing to give them more money and they took less for the NTC's? that's usually how it works. If I'm Dubas I'm calling Benning every day asking about his players. Benning has no clue what he's doing.
Bennings is horrible at handling out contracts. He is lucky he is good at drafting or he is so gone from the Nucks.

do you think the islanders didn't offer him a contract last summer, and/or talk contract? it takes two sides to negotiate and sign a deal. and secondly the real reason Tavares didn't stay is because the team never got better simple as that. he was drafted 9 years ago and they made the playoffs once? that's why he left imo.

I wonder if the Isles go after EK now

The Karlsson to Vegas rumours keep going.
If they do get him, I’d like to see what D help we can get from Vegas. Someone needs to be available.
Ottawa is such a tire fire.
The sad (or funny part) is they haven’t even hit rock bottom yet.
They still have to trade their franchise player.
They don’t have their 1st next year which is sure to be a top 3 to lottery win (Ottawa will probably be one of if not the worst team in the league).
Duchene will be UFA if not signed this year and you can bet the Habs will be ready with the money.
Owner isn’t changing.

I think Ottawa feels the same way. Meaning that they would prefer not to trade him to Tampa if possible. So it’s double good for us. Get him out of Ottawa and keep him out of Tampa.

yah but nothing is gonna stop nill from trading back into the division.

Was the Hoffman thing the nail in the coffin for Karlsson's relationship with Sens management or is it the combination of stupid things that their owner says and does?

Possible. But after trading for Karlsson, it’s more likely that team would do so under assurances of linking him to a long term contract for themselves.
Stars are the front-runner to acquire Erik Karlsson
The Senators offered Karlsson an eight-year, $80 million contract extension on Sunday, which was reportedly declined. The $10 million AAV is less than the $11 million AAV that Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty will earn in the eight-year, $88 million extension he signed on July 1.

Karlsson is believed to be seeking a similar contract to Doughty.

The Stars likely wouldn’t be making the deal without an assurance from Karlsson that they would be able to work out an extension to keep him in Dallas.

It’s believed the Vegas Golden Knights, Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars have held talks with the Senators in some way, shape or form in recent weeks about a possible deal to get Karlsson.

There were also reports Monday the New York Islanders might make a pitch for Karlsson as well and it appears the Rangers have backed off.

Out of that group, perhaps, the Knights, Bolts and Stars might be the best fit for Karlsson. Any team that’s going to acquire the two-time Norris Trophy winner is going to want him to agree to an extension before giving the assets needed to make a deal.

Looking at the Habs cap situation...Eugh, I honestly think they're in a worse situation than Ottawa. Weber+Petry+Alzner+Price all signed for at least the next 3 years, taking up @28.5M...

They'd need to retain about $5M between Price and Weber to get anything of value for them, and that would take up 2 slots until July 1, 2026...

That's still probably their best bet though, because with Price they'll be stuck in a cycle of mediocrity until it's too late to move his contract (which is also buy-out proof).

And I thought we were in a bad place in 2014...

They're all hot air. I can understand their frustration, as I remember the anger at Sundin not waiving his NTC and then signing with Vancouver half way through the following season, but the shit they're saying is ridiculous. They're basically Cleveland when LeBron made his "Decision", which is fairly BS. They also act like he lead the Islanders on, when he definitely let Lou know on Saturday what his decision was. Lou not leaking that is pretty typical, and that's really where they should be directing their anger at not knowing JT was gone until his announcement on twitter.

The Oilers have been surprisingly quiet... not many major moves considering their season and comments from Chia

Meh, they have $8M in cap space, and have to re-sign Nurse and Strome. That will eat up most of their space, so it's not like they can really afford anyone, and even if they could, the only D on the market they should have been after was DeHaan, and they've got 4 LHD already lol.

Basically, they're in Cap Hell, and will be for at least 3 more years, when RNH+Sekara+Russel+Larsson are all off the books. Even then, they're still going to have another 2 years of Lucic (whose contract is buy-out proof). Essentially devouring most of their chance to compete with relatively fair-value contracts for McDavid+Draisatl.

I'd just like to say how happy I am that we have Dubas running this team with Pridham and Gilman as his cap-geniuses.

I'd say a little bit of both.
