If Ek to Tampa goes through I would hope the pundits spend the same amount of time screeching endlessly about Tbays future cap as they've done for toronto.

I bet they wouldn't say a word, or anything about "having" to trade anyone

If Tampa gets EK somehow (They're rumored to be in on him) , that's a MASSIVE answer to us getting Tavares. They'd be back in the drivers seat as far as cup contenders go.

Agreed

Something to consider also is that with low Florida state tax EK could take $8.5 mil contract and AAV and still take home the same $$$ in his bank account as making $11 mil in another state with higher tax rates. TB, Vegas and Dallas are the 3 finalist because they have the 3 lowest taxes in their states.

If EK at the Stamkos deal of $8.5 mil + Hedman at $7.8 mil = Stammer + Ek + VH = $24.8 mil combined (= a Rocket Richard capable forward and 2 X Norris Dmen).
vs
JT @ $11 mil + AM @ $11 mil AAV = $22 mil for 2 players. Willie and Mitch = $15 combined .

Previous NHL contracts have been about putting a cap in place so that all teams can compete. My dream would be that the next CBA cap is based on actual "take home dollars" by the player. This would be incredibly complex and next to impossible to implement but I believe in Gary.

Damn, if Tampa gets Karlsson.... Would be cool to do what they're doing and pay up for a dman for one year for a cup run. Anybody know who the potential candidates would be for us if a scenario like that could happen?

A happy secondary consequence of the Leafs' miraculous rise from the depths of salute-gate etc. is that the Leafs' biggest rivals seem to believe it's an easy thing to pull off. Ask Edmonton, Arizona, NYI, Buffalo how guaranteed this approach is.

Paul Holmgren.. woof.
always thought NSH was dumbo to accept that offer sheet

Holmgren sure bent them over a barrel with that offer sheet.
A small market team potentially losing Weber & Suter in 1 offseason. They pretty much had to keep Weber at all costs.

Wow just another shot for Montreal...Sure it was safe to presume Weber wasn't going to hold up great over time. But I didn't think he'd need this much work to keep him going already.

Shea Weber out for an extended period due to knee surgery. That Subban trade just gets better and better as a leaf fan
What he do, trip down a flight of stairs? Montreals a mess and it looks good on em.

And now EK is following Stamkos on Twitter...hmmm.
If Tampa gets EK, our division is the most top heavy in the league imo. I really want to get home ice advantage this upcoming season but we'll have to see how Boston does this year too.

Suter was leaving too - that's why Poile agreed.

Yep. Leafs vs Tampa might be what Caps vs Pens has been these past few years. One of the better teams knocked out early.

Wouldn't be that difficult. Either make salary "after taxes" or more simply give teams a "tax exception" on their cap based on the different in comparison to the lowest taxed team. The difference or at least a portion of it is added to a team's salary cap.

I agree though, won't happen.
