No worries, he'll be on it next year after his lawyer pays the girl to go away. They'll get to distribute the wealth onto NHL 17.

Wtf? Kane was already on a cover. He shouldn't have even been considered in the first place.

This is for you KINGS17. The cover EA doesn't want you to see. Kane the night of while partying with his cab driver friend Abdul.

Dee, that wedding dance was epic.

Not specific to any case in particular, but when discussing lawyers to call I'm surprised no one brought up Bob Loblaw and Barry Zuckerkorn.

How about my cousin Vinny?

My next door neighbor's kid brother lives in Raleigh was up here last weekend visiting for a family party and we got to talking about hockey. I asked him about the Canes and if he felt Eric Staal would be moved, last yr of current contact, given he's about to turn 31 and although a good offensive forward (.87 PPG career) that team is in a rebuild and is minimal , I 'd guess, 4 years or more away from being a contender, esp given the teams in the conf ahead of them. He disagreed ,saying he didn't think Staal should be moved, that he's been here his whole career and would retire a Cane.

Of the 5 others, when the topic broadened to at what point , given that situation, do you have to consider moving a guy his age in that circumstance. I think the Flyers will be faced with that soon with Giroux, as they are not a playoff team this year and also a good 4 yrs or more out of being a true contender/elite. He'll be 32 or more by then.

Four of the group felt before age 30, then the trade value tends to dip. The other 2 felt that age didn't matter until 34 or 35, which IMO is too late.

SO if you're the GM, and you're looking at that Canes roster and realistically where their future path is, do you trade him now, while he still has value , esp in a league where top centers are in demand.

Or do you wait ? His cap hit is 8.2 and in the last year.

If I'm the Canes, I call Poile, the Preds have goaltending and a stud defense. But having your top 2 centers 35 yrs old doesn't bode well for a team banking on playing north of 100 games in a SC run. I think given how close they are, he'd be a good fit for them for the next 3 years and provide a better first line option than they have now.

I'd trade both Staal brothers in a heartbeat.

I could see Staal in Nashville, but what do you think the preds would have to give up? I think the Canes are closer than 4 years out, and if they cannot get a monster offer they should re-sign him

The problem really is both teams are trying to get younger, and though something around like Weber/Staal as a start would make sense, I don't see it being something that sticks.

Staal as an impending UFA would be in a similar boat to Jason Spezza last offseason (on a related note, Spezza used his NTC to block a deal to Nashville). Because of his potential free agency, Spezza only got back a modest return: An okay young NHL forward (Alex Chiasson), an okay prospect (Alex Guptill), a darkhorse prospect who ended up having a tremendous year (Nick Paul), and a 2nd round pick.

I think Spezza had a worse relationship in Ottawa than Eric S does in Carolina. I do not think Spezza was going to re-sing in Ottawa but I think Staal would be open to it in Carolina.
Who knows what's behind closed doors though

I picked Nashville because they are WC team with that need. The Habs could use a big center as well but I don't think the Canes would trade him in the EC. Also, Staal has an NMC so that might be an issue as well.

For who? He's a good player but not as much of a impact player as he was a few years ago and a bit on the inconsistent side. I recall a few rumors last winter a top draft pick and top young player were rumor going back. Or a top player and top prospect.
Canes have been moving vets for picks and younger players so I think they'd go that route, if they were to move him.

Resign him, I guess but at what cost? He'll be going on 32 when the new deal starts and would want a 5 yr deal probably at what he considers fair market value. I guess it would depend on what other players they'd have to sign at that time.

He has stated he doesn't want to be traded, and with an NMC, like Thorton, he could just say no.

Weber's a much better player, a much for impactful one and defensemen have success longer than forwards. He's also signed for a couple more years, Staal isn't. If Weber got moved ,something lot better than Staal would be coming back.
