Around the League--Dog Days of Summer

CFL has had those ads for decades. They haven't gone further.

Literally every league in the world outside of MLB and NFL have ads on jerseys. You'd have to have been really naive to not see this coming. Eventually MLB and NFL will ad them as well.

The NFL doesn't have too, the NFL is literally a money printing press.

Doesn't mean they won't. An organization like the NFL isn't going to throw away a penny in potential earnings.

The NFL has been printing money for decades and that didn't stop them from launching their own tv network and adding a Thursday game and often a second MNF game

I agree with this but I'm also with YP in that I think it's a normal worry that they'll expand the advertising over time. Doesn't mean I have to like it, but I guess I don't hate it, I just don't want it taking over the jersey or logo the way especially the European leagues have.

But someone else did bring up the point that considering how much hockey fans are defensive of the jersey, they don't seem to care much about how much advertising already litters the ice/boards

Man, those Thursday night NFL games are too much for me...and most of them have looked like Saturday 1PM Kings vs. Predators games.

It may be natural, but it's unfounded. Like I said before the CFL (hardly a well off league) has gone 20+ years with just small patches. They know too much and people are going to strike back and it'll end up hurting the brand rather than helping. The NHL teams know this as well. They have teams of marketing professionals. I am not concerned about this at all really. And it shouldn't really come as a shock as this has clearly been coming for over a decade.

I can agree with this but it is still a worry. And that is because of the American leagues, that is those in NA, they are the only league that has so much money between 2 currencies. So the thought of maybe getting a very large amount of money in US dollars could be very tempting to the league as a whole.
And if those ads are only on the on ice product and not the commercially sold ones then they wouldn't be upsetting near as many people.

Some people have too much time on their hands....

Wow.

The whole thing is starting to look worse and worse for Patrick Kane. An on duty/off duty for the time he was driving Kane says that PK was very drunk and that he drove Kane and the girls to his house also has comments as to the state of the girl when she left the premises. I mean the alleged victim and her side remains silent while Kane and his lawyer are out trying to sway public opinion in their favor? I am going to "keep an open mind" but something is starting to smell a bit in Kaneville.

Not sure why you think that make him look worse. He had a driver since he was going to drink, the right thing to do. The officer also said he saw Kane do nothing inappropriate. Granted his word shouldn't be taken at face value since he is an employee. But also said it is the accuser that wanted to go to Kane's home not the friend as she has said.
I would say the officer is a wash really.

Patrick Kane = Major NHL star
Slava Voynov = mid-tier NHL star

No suspension is coming to Kane unless **** gets very real(arrested and brought in on charges, maybe not even then).

Yep, the NHL double standard will once again show up and turn its head the other way to this issue, especially with it's golden boy Kane. I mean, you can't have the best American player on it's marquee team suspended while awaiting a trial should it come to that.:shakehead

http://www.si.com/nhl/2015/08/19/alex-ovechkin-2018-winter-olympics-nhl-players

SI Article on how Alex Ovechkin's statement that he and others 'will' play in the 2018 Olympics, whether the NHL participates or not, is potentially undermining the NHL's position. They have not committed for various reasons, including owners that are dead set against it. It's why are instituting the World Championship in Sep 2016 pre season, not in the middle. But there are other issues

The league then is looking for significant financial and other considerations from the International Ice Hockey Federation and Olympic organizers before making any commitment to attend. That would include covering the exorbitant costs of injury insurance, travel, accommodations and rights to video footage, among other elements. The longer the NHL delays its decision, the more likely it is to get what it needs via negotiations.

But the article points out that OVie's adamant stance might undermine that if the IIHF and Korea feel that players will come anyway.

Can he (and others) be penalized if the NHL isn't participating and they go anyway? Other than they'd have to put up $$M in for insurance. Couldn't he get suspended?

They could definitely get suspended.
They could go as far as voiding a contract.
Where the things could get really messy is if a player got injured.
