I feel like Perry never did anything against the Kings to make us hate him, plus he got punched in the dick by JQ. Never minded him. But he's sure a pain to others.

But Pronger all day, sure fire HOFer.
What??? It was never one or two major moments like Tkachuk but the constant little dick head moves made worse by his more than punchable rat face(only surpassed by the rat face himself Logan Couture) and on top of that the drain of Homer Hayward in the background was just icing on a history of the culmination of hate.

Yeah, I guess. But like I said I can't remember him actually hurting a King, plus he didn't do shit in the playoffs but squirt water in Carter's glove and get smoked on a crucial penalty shot. If anything, his legacy to me as far as the Kings are concerned was comic relief

Fair, but years back when I was entirely capable of being upset with a group of individuals who could not give less of a collective F about me, he was the source of many thrown things around the apartment. Ask @riznat

The discussion from those in the media with sources in the ranks say they believe the NHL wants to get back to it's "regular calendar" schedule - training camps in September and a full 82-game season with the traditional October start. They don't want to award a Stanley Cup in mid August again.

I know the league is trying to get back to a normal season start for 2021-22 and I’m not saying the Cup will get pushed to Aug, but rather just having the ability have the finals end in mid to late July could allow to teams to play a full slate of 56 games in the regular season

No because that's Richards AND Carter. The Kings ended up with an elite defense without Pronger. They needed someone other than Handzus, Stoll and Brad Richardson to center the 2nd line to produce some offense. An emerging Simmonds would've been enough. Ryan Smyth and Frolov were on the way out.
had Smyth even got to LA before the 09 draft?

I've never heard that before. Pronger ended up getting trade for 2 1st round picks, Lupul and Sbisa. Schenn and JMFJ might not be the quantity that the Ducks were looking for, but you could argue that at the time was a better package. Pronger certainly would've been the veteran defenseman that Lombardi was looking for to pair with Doughty, but I'm not sure Pronger would've liked going to a team that was in the middle of rebuilding. Interesting to think about.
No Mitchell would have made me very sad

Will never forget Ryan Smyth for being not scared of the front of the net but completely scared of the South Bay

I was so pissed how he pigeon held LA into a deal to Edmonton. he had one more year on his contract. His family could have moved back for one year. Was then pissed at Edmonton when they botched the medical records on Brule. Both turned into a blessing. Fraser was a stud on the 4th line, and if Smyth never demanded out would LA have the cap space for Carter?

Honestly the way that all turned out was the hockey gods saying f*** you Smyth, f*** you Edmonton, watch what happens next when you act in bad faith

Perry has such a longer tenure as a Duck than Pronger so we saw him way more often--including the only time in history when both teams were good at the same time. That said, the teams he led were generally chokers or underachievers in the playoffs whereas the Pronger acquisition delivered the Cup.

Pronger is more of an asshole--including off of the ice if reports are to be believed. That said, I think of Pronger as a Blue and not a Duck just like Scotty Neids is a Devil to me. Perry is a Duck just like Teemu is a Duck and Luc is a King. So what I'm saying is that there are way more years of hating Perry so it is no surprise to see people lean towards him but, at the same time, Pronger would be lap him in this thing if he was a Duck for 12 seasons or whatever.

I'd also take both of them on my team in a heartbeat.

I could agree with this take except for the last line. Pronger was borderline dirty, by the standards of the league when he played, but he didn't back down.

Not sure what it is with Perry but I have always hated that guy and would hate it if he were ever a King. Pronger I would have cheered for (closet Flyer fan and loved getting him). I even look at Mathew Tkathuk and if he were ever a King I would like it as he doesn't seem as weaselly as Perry. Maybe that changes over time, but even in his prime I could never say that statement about Perry

But it would have been more difficult for you if Pronger was a Duck for 10 years and he was routinely doing dirty shit to Kings players six times a year.

I mean, yeah, Pronger isn't a weasel like Perry but let's be real: we are all going to love anyone that's winning Hart trophies while racking up 100 PIMs while wearing a Kings sweater.

that's why I said maybe that changes over time. Was referring to if Pronger spent more time in Anaheim. I loved the way Pronger played in St. Louis and Edmonton beforehand though (don't truly remember him as a Whaler). A d-man who wins the heart!! By the time he got to Anaheim I already liked the player.

Perry came up a weasel and I don't even like when he plays for Team Canada.

Tough to compare the two because of era. Perry would have been destroyed if he was doing his act in 1995.

Yeah makes you wonder if the final calls were on Al Murray or Taylor. Because Murray went to Tampa and was a drafting boss.

I think that after the Kings failed to sign a few junior league prospects two years after their draft years (which happened with Matt Zultek and Justin Papineau), the organization felt burned in using high picks to select prospects who could walk away within a couple of seasons, so they seemed to favor drafting more and more collegiate and European prospects.

I think I recall reading comments from Taylor concerning this, and he explained how they have more long term control of a prospect out of Europe or college as opposed to Canadian juniors. Of course the Kings would use their first pick on Brown, but he was quickly signed and started to play immediately.

From 2000 to 2005, the only first round pick the Kings selected out of juniors was Brown, and the only second round pick taken between that timeframe was Dany Roussin.

Going back to the discussion on Chris Pronger. I recall those rumors vividly, with Andy Strickland breaking the news and it was reported by multiple sources.

Multiple Reports: Chris Pronger Traded to the Los Angeles Kings for Jack Johnson and the 5th Overall Pick
