Agreed. If Torts and PLD had issues, what makes them think its going to work out with Laine?

There are a lot of people saying this won't work out and it very well not. However Torts got along with guys like St. Louis, Panarin did well under him (although he left I don't think it was due to Torts), Lecavlier put up points with him. Point is there are examples of both and I think Torts has expanded his scope as a coach.

I like cambells quote afterwards.

Also when has Tkachuk ever been a media darling?

Man, any time he did something dirty, they'd just pump him for being a good 'ol hard time hockey player, a throwback, rather than a rat.

I remember when he elbowed Carter in the chops and whoever the broadcaster was said something to the effect of that's why you don't mess with Tkachuk, he takes your number and gets you later, and that's why everyone plus his teammates love him so much. And they were applauding him for trying to jump Muzzin and whoever else before finally settliing for McNabb, something like Tkachuk wants to pay his debt but the Kings just won't let him.

Now they've gotta be on the OTHER side of it all year and I can't be happier. No way his rep escapes this year untouched.

I think other than here in Calgary he is largely seen as a dirt ball. Even some Calgary media talk about how he is viewed outside of the city comparing him Matt Cooke level of hate

Odd waivers today:
Ennis - man what the heck happened to him
Pateryn - Odd that Colorado deal cole for him and then waives Pateryn .

Of the two I think Pateryn has the better chance of claim. Some teams need D

That's fair, I don't see the Canadian broadcasts THAT often, but when I do, unless he does something against a Canadian team when they'll question it, they largely just praise him as being hard nosed throwback.

Regardless, I think any remaining inkling of that tone will be gone

Torts is hands down a great coach, listen to any player talk about him, even PLD has tremendous respect for him....

Seems to be a little bit of a Sutterism, where the guy just rides you so hard to get the most out of you that it's exhausting.

And then in reflection "yeah, best coach i ever had."

I was trying to talk myself into Pateryn during the offseason as a 3rd pairing PK type, but the price tag (2.25 AAV, 2.75 mil in actual salary) was a bit rough. I'd be surprised if anybody claimed him if only because not a ton of teams have the cap space nor the motivation. He probably would be the type of case where he could clear waivers but maybe there's a team who wants to dump a bad contract the other way (essentially what the Cole/Pateryn trade was).

Colorado was making room for Byram/Timmins to get regular playing time. Since Sakic was the one who signed Ian Cole as a free agent, I think there's some loyalty/responsibility to find a situation where he can play rather than having him languish as a healthy scratch for the Avs. On the same token, Bill Guerin inherited Pateryn from the previous GM so perhaps not the same bonds there. Colorado opens up some cap space from the trade as well which will come in handy around the deadline.

Lame, what a loser

pathetic

every other player that's every played hockey knows when they're gonna fall onto a goalie and they do everything they can not to, he somehow ends up on top with both knees and doesn't move an inch afterwards

someday people will figure out that even though their mouth can lie, their body language gives it away

he said he didn't intend to fall on him. But said nothing about his intentions of ramming his knee down into the back of the goalie's head

So, tomorrow night Toronto should dress Engvall, and then expect to have 3-4 instigator penalties against Engvall, Simmonds, and Bogosian, maybe Thornton as well.

Just keep making the little POS fight all game long.

It's possible that Tkachuk didn't mean to do that.

But your reputation is everything.

Stutzle's passing is so off. He'll never be a center forcing plays and making those bad passes. He already looks frustrated in this game vs the Nucks. In his defence he is playing on a team with no elite talent.
