While I think we should and will make a shrewd move or two to keep up in the arms race, I’m not really upset at missing out on Brady especially with what the depletion of our stash would be. I’m also just not a huge fan of the player but of course he’s still good. Our top-6 is plenty right now, sometimes even when line 1 is nowhere to be found. We’ve seen that. Ok, so maybe you can get an upgrade on Hall eventually but he’s still who many would expect to be the 6th/7th-most offensively impactful forward on the roster over the next season or two. Doesn’t need to be now nor does it need to be Brady. Center depth or D is where I’d like to throw the chips. Goalie, sure, if you have questions on 32/52 for the long haul.

Maybe. It wasn't just Barkov though. Not a single player played 82 games for them.

Barkov missed the season.
Reinhart missed 18 games
Marchand missed 30 games
Lundell missed 18 games
Tkachuk missed 51 games
Seth Jones missed 30 games
Kulikov missed 63 games
Lustarinen missed 9 games
Rodrigues missed 13 games
Mikkola missed 14 games
Eckblad missed 10 games

After 3 seasons straight of long playoff runs, it takes a toll.

The fluke of having such an injury prone roster be healthy for the playoffs for that stretch is crazy.

And they're only getting older. Florida doesn't scare me at all going forward.

Thanks man!
I mean he has nothing more to prove. All the guy does is win, had an extended layoff when Freddie balled out and then went blazing hot again.

And it was so good his name is engraved in metal for the rest of time. I wouldn't mind an upgrade, but I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this team can run it back with him as the starter

My point is we got him on waivers. Florida can cobble together a goalie situation. It’s not like we’re going out and getting Hellebuyck, you can put together a perfectly average goaltending core for cheap.

Not just that but also in the way they play. They excel in mucking it up physically and after the play. But now they're old, and their veteran players can't hold up to the physicality anymore.

I for one am shocked all those guys missed time the year many of them had to drug test for the Olympics. What a wild coincidence.

Who did we get him from on waivers again?

Florida chose to drop him so they didn't have to admit the Tarasov trade wasnt ideal. Outside of going with Bob I'm not really sure I trust their ability to evaluate goalie talent right now.

And until this year you very vocally didn’t trust ours either. Build a good enough team and it doesn’t really matter. That seems to be the plan.

C'mon man. Nobody knew what he could become. 28? teams passed on him on waivers.

It would be like saying you don't trust Carolina's ability to evaluate defensemen because we waived Forsling.

I wouldn't say nobody. Schonfelder had long had him circled as a guy Tulsky needed to pick up should he become available because he saw that potential. And at the end of the day results matter, and our result was a Cup and Florida's result is, well at least for the time being a complete mess in net. Bob's play this year was worse than anything we've seen here since Brindy took over.

Of f***ing course.

Ottawa isn't getting fair value no matter what so might as well settle for picks and maybe a prospect, whoever Florida has that's almost NHL-ready, assuming they have one.
Yep. their hands were kind of tied.

The 9th OA could be a Jarvis type player.
As @Ole Gil said on the main board, the Canes turned the 26th pick, a 2nd round pick and a meh prospect into K'Andre Miller.

It's all what they do next.

He had him as a guy that we should pick up, but I guarantee you, he didn't see him coming in at 27 and going 31-6-2 and winning the cup. If they knew that, they would have traded for him sooner.

I'm not saying that Florida will figure out how to solve their goaltending hole easily, but using them waiving Bussi as evidence of that is silly.

Makes sense as to why now. Apparently the other teams in on it were us and Vegas, no idea who the 4th team he'd have accepted is, but Florida is (well, was) the only one with a top 10 pick up dangle in a trade.

Apparently Minnesota was the 4th.

I do wonder how much tampering there's been from the fallout of Team USA. Friedman hinted as much a few weeks back
