I was in Atlanta for a few days earlier this week. I'd rather they don't get an NHL team, not a cool place to travel to
Where did you go? Did you go the eclectic burger place, the vortex? Or visit the nostalgic (although i don’t get the attraction outside of the frozen orange) Varsity?

I didn't really get to do anything fun other than going to the Panthers game (and the way it went not sure that qualifies as "fun" more like torture...). Had client meetings all day Monday then flew out. Been several times before and just not a fan of the area. Better than Quebec City or some nonsense but I'd prefer something like SLC or Houston. SLC would be sweet to plan a ski trip in Utah and also be able to go to a Canes game. But ultimately I don't care that much

Okay, now I'm back on the "Fire Babcock" side. Not because I believe he did anything egregiously wrong, but mostly because it'd be hilarious for him to get fired for the same thing he was fired for last time without ever coaching a game. Especially after the whole "I've changed and here's why" PR move that was made when he was hired.

What DID he get fired for last time? Was it being mean to Marner? I feel like that’s my recollection.

Kind of. He asked Marner, a rookie, to rank the work ethic of his teammates. And then he took that list and went to the team and said "Here's how Marner ranks your work ethic."

Admittedly, I don't know much about coaching, but that seems like a shitty thing to do. Obviously, it puts Marner in a terrible spot, and can't exactly make the rest of the team feel great either.

As for the latest situation, there's so many stories flying around about what COULD have happened that I don't think we'll get an answer about what DID happen until the investigation is over. But it's sounding more and more like it's going to end up with Babcock out of the job again

We'll have to agree to disagree here but the league can't ignore Atlanta forever, especially with TNT being there and the league on that network.

I do think after Atlanta, Houston is probably the only other vacant city on the "wishlist".
Oh don’t get me wrong Atlanta makes sense for the league I’m just referring to my preference. The league and bottom line don’t give a crap what I think. I do love the idea of Salt Lake though and I think that could make sense for the league too

He did a lot of shit like that, that was just the egregious example that got the most play. Manipulative asshole power games. Did it in Detroit, too. Tried to scratch Chelios from the outdoor game in his hometown, had to be overruled by the GM, and then only played him one shift. He's a massive dick whose MO is to humiliate players to exert dominance and make sure no players ever try to challenge him on anything.

And all that was quite well known when the Blue Jackets decided to hire him.

Accidentally on purpose putting things like dick pics on a big screen TV while scrolling through phone photos is entirely in line with the kind of mind games he's known to have played in the past. I'm utterly mystified as to why ANYONE would give him the benefit of the doubt.

Atlanta ownership who cares with a willingness to spend to the cap every year and an Atlanta team will do well.

Maybe

It's not like the Braves, Hawks or Falcons ever really drew consistently well in their best years. But then again, the Atlanta soccer team is on another planet from everything else in MLS attendance wise, so who knows.

Braves sell out most of their games when they are good. Falcons draw really well, when they are good.

I don’t know about the Hawks

There's no reason an NHL team (that's actually run worth a damn mind you) can't be more popular than the Hawks. Basketball as a whole will likely always be more popular than Hockey in the ATL but the Hawks in almost 60 years there have never even been to the NBA finals. The times I've been there it kind of reminds me of the Charlotte Hornets now, like here sports fans there are also numb to the mediocrity but they've been dealing with it for much longer. Hell the Orlando Magic have a more "storied" history than the Hawks.
