So 0% APR for the contract, then they break down at the end of the warranty?

That 08-09 team made the playoffs and had something like a +16 goal differential.

Those 5-1 losses must have been prior to Laviolette getting canned, or prior to the 9 game winning streak that occurred in March.
11/12 vs Capitals 5-1 L
12/3 Laviolette fired
1/10 @ Bruins 5-1 L
1/13 @ Senators 5-1 L
2/14 vs Blue Jackets 5-1 L
2/17 vs Bruins 5-1 L
3/18 - 4/7 Nine game winning streak
4/9 vs Sabres 5-1 L

Man, it's easy to forget how mediocre that 2009 team was until March. They looked the part of a team that would be a first-round out at best.

I’ve been around for both Gretzky and now Ovie to score 802. I was on spring break in FLA during college for Gretz…..😳

Obviously that first one had a lot more weight to it, they were showing all the Kings games on national tv to make sure they caught it. I agree Ovie was reluctant to do it with an empty net, but he still has another chance to make it just right. We’ll see….

Raty (52 in draft) from Isles scores last night in his debut.

Hope we don’t regret not drafting him versus Heimosalmi & Koivunen (44 & 51).

We almost certainly will. We will also probably regret taking Gleb over Hutson. “Not having regrets” when it comes to the draft is a bit of a fool’s errand. Though the Raty one was weird just because he had been so highly rated at one point (projected #1 overall at one point, no?)

I root for him because the things said about him were pretty rough, and seemed like questionable info even then. Draft pundits and ”experts” with hot takes dropping his value and teams either agreed or listened. I don’t blame us too hard, but yes we directly took Koivunen over him so we (like the rest of the league) fall into the group that you can raise an eyebrow at. It’s not about that to me though as I hate playing the draft regret game.

I just love a good redemption story and this kid is the potentially the best draft one in awhile. I’m a fan.

Raty’s skating was rated very low. It fits the Islanders who play a slower, tighter style. It may not have fit us. Of course his skating looks improved so the point is moot.
It was the skating, I think to the extent that scouts around the league felt that he had survived on pure skill that far despite his skating but would have his skating exposed on the NHL level.

Scored in his first NHL...future hall of famer confirmed.

It's not like he was tearing up the AHL before.

Think we still need to pump the breaks draft regret.
Of course, Time will tell. He is up in the big League sooner than most draftees of that class.

FWIW: Islander fans think Raty is their offensive savior and teams dropped down dumbly similar to what happened in ‘77 with Bossy (lol @ Leafs and Rangers who both passed on Bossy twice)
