I think what *some* may forget, or find unimportant, is that this is the entertainment business. Cups are great - but there’s only one team that can win each year (I know, “more at 11”).

The idea of fielding a very competitive team every year, a team that realistically can win the Cup with some luck/breaks - but without “going for it” by mortgaging the future - is better for business. There are teams out there, markets out there, that can’t sustain a period of shit play without hemorrhaging fans and (I guess more importantly, money).

I don’t know what’s better (or worse) - winning a Cup and sucking for years on end afterwards, or being pretty good for 10 years straight.
Bruin model. Win a cup and still stay relevant for a long time is best for ownership and fan base. Tough to replicate though.

I watched the end of the EDM/STL game last night. EDM has a PP with 40s left up by 1 and STL pulls the goalie. Nurse comes around the net with the puck and half asses a clearing attempt while Draisaitl is floating in the neutral zone looking for an EN chance.

Tarasenko (I think) gets his stick on Nurses attempt and sends it behind the net where McDavid gets muscled off the puck and the STL player feeds Tarasenko in front of the net and he scores with about 19s left.

OT was just crazy fun to watch but the Blues win it in a shoot-out after RNH, McDavid (who was 48% on shoot outs) and Draisaitl all get stopped.

Apparently, he thought a delayed penalty was being called, which is why he looked back towards the ref. Just picked the worst possible time and location to do so.

This map is very cursed.
Vermont is viewing the Nordiques "team page"? When did this "team page" get created, anyway? And who has been hosting it for so long?

Tank is a beast, would love to have him here, though not sure where he fits on the wing unless we move Necas to C (which I think we should, but it ain't happening mid-season).

for context his grandmother died a few days ago shortly after he was healthy scratched, i believe

Yeah, TDA has his obvious faults and rocky past, but in this case, guy lost a family member that he was apparently very close with (she lived in/near Philly), so that's all that needs to be said about the matter.

This map is very cursed.
Someone over on reddit called out that the data being used for this is BS or being interpreted poorly.

For example, here is some google trend data on the Hurricanes and Predators in South Carolina over the past year:

What does everyone think about this article? Canes would fall into the "older" thought process?

We all instinctively know that the shooting efficiency is false. And if you have any doubt about that, just listen to what everyone is yelling when the clock is ticking down and the guy is skating around with the puck in the zone.

It ain't "wait a little longer for the better shot!"

How much harder is the East than the West?

L10 records for the top 8 seeds:

East
Bruins 6-2-2
Devils 5-3-2
Leafs 8-1-1
Canes 7-1-2
Pens 8-1-1
TBL 8-2-0
NYR 6-3-1
Islanders 5-4-1

West
Knights 6-4-0
Stars 6-3-1
Jets 7-3-0
Kings 4-3-3
Kraken 5-5-0
Oilers 6-3-1
Wild 7-3-0
Avs 4-5-1
When you use small sample sizes, which 10 games are, you can draw any conclusions you want. For instance, 10 games ago, the Canes were struggling and would look differently than they do here. NJ was a juggernaut and would look different here.

Looking at the full body of work with a larger sample size is what is more relevant.

No, you can't draw any conclusions you want. For example, you cannot draw the conclusion that the top of the East have been easier to gain ground on lately than the top of the West.

And the full body of work more than backs up what I'm saying there. Look at the EvW record, the conference dynamics are lopsided this season.

If the Canes were in the West, their current streak would make them the hottest team in the entire conference (and by a 2-point margin at that). In the East it makes them tied for the 4th/5th hottest. Notably, they got there by kicking the shit out of the West (4-1-1) during that 10-game period, consistent with what they've done so far this year in general (10-3-5).

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were trying to say. My mistake. I'm in agreement.
