Rangers blew a 3-0 lead today
If you haven’t seen enough pissing and moaning on this board in the last week or so, the Rangers board post-collapse is a masterpiece and HOF example of fans going into meltdown mode. All of a sudden they hate their team makeup from the FO all the way down the 4 lines worse than we do ours. Blue tears 😭 for a change.

Not sure I’d call that getting pounded, only landed one real shot that I could see. Absolutely ragged dolled though. Almost like what Chara would do to a guy he really didn’t want to mess up.

Should we start a main board thread asking if the Rangers could go back would they still draft them (and Kakko)?

Pls no...the reverse jinxes are real.

Just lurk and eat popcorn they can self destruct all on their own.

TDA gets pounded:

Reading the comments, sounds like TDA made him eat a bunch of punches before this. Also, pretty sure attempting to pound a guy's head on the ice when he's down is a game misconduct/suspension, no matter how much he may deserve it

EDIT: Full video, he definitely made Wahlstrom eat a bunch before it evened out a bit and he tripped which is when this vid starts

But what if in our reverse of the reverse jinx we con someone into reverse jinxing the reverse of the reverse jinx? A double reverse jinx has to be more powerful than a reverse jinx.

Been a while since I glanced at the standings, just saw a new Chuck Fletcher thread, sure enough the Flyers are in the midst of another 10 game losing streak.

In fairness to Fletcher and Torts, the Flyers have been absolutely reamed by injuries. Their forward lineup is sub-NHL level and makes them almost an auto-win for whoever plays them during this phase.

Nightmarish timing for Fletcher, though. For a while they looked like they were going to make that playoff push he was gunning for. Now, for reasons completely out of his control, they look like they're going to be way out of the race before they even have a decent chance to recover.

Speaking of the Rangers, the article after their Oilers collapse is a good one. The writer talks about benching Trocheck who has been relegated to 3C duties. Centering Goodrow and Vesey.

I had missed this detail. Glad he's flourishing.

I'm glad that Bear's doing well. There's plenty of times where guys are clearly NHL players but our roster was just too deep for them to stick with Rod's groups. Even with Chatfield's struggles during our slump, he clearly can be a very effective defensive third pair righty with speed and size at his best.

Why do you think that? He's got speed, but he's frequently out of position, makes bad reads, takes ill advised pinches and basically plays chaotic.

I'm glad they did right by Bear, and if the intent was to trade him from the moment of the signings then fine, but I can't see how he'd be worse (other than a higher salary) than Chatfield, Coghlan or even CDH.

Is it possible they think they can develop Coghlan or Chatfield into a decent 3rd pair defenseman by the end of the year, and are willing to take the lumps now?

Because if not.... phew, what a bad miss this past summer

IMO, even though Chatfield's rough around the edges, he's noticeably better than Bear was in the past year or so. I liked Bear and rooted for him hard, but he played his way out of the lineup fair and square.

Chatfield absolutely has the physical chops to improve. Most of his issues so far have been between the ears rather than pure incapability. Clearly Brind'Amour thinks the same way.

"Between the ears" issues are many times harder to fix than some other issues. I just don't see it in him. Hope I'm wrong though.

Brind'Amour doesn't have a choice. It's either Coghlan or Chatfield...and neither are great options. Right now all of Chatfield, Coghlan and CDH are terrible.

The 3rd pairing isn't going to be out there and score a lot of goals, but they get VERY sheltered minutes and are giving up as many goals as the top 2 pairings in much less TOI.

I'm a Chatfield stan. He's just getting used to playing regular minutes in the NHL. It's a grind he probably isn't used to, but I think he has the talent to be a good bottom pairing d-man in this league. Time will tell if he's another Brett Bellemore or not. But we're an extremely analytics focused team and Rod is an outstanding coach and still keeps him in the lineup, so even if he's struggling lately he must be doing something right to stay in the lineup over Coghlan who I thought was a lock to be in the roster every night.

Sometimes they're hard to fix, but especally on D a guy often just needs reps seeing the game at NHL speed. That's more the sense I get from Chatfield.

Oh, I agree that Bear struggled last year after covid and deserved to sit. And I have no issue moving on from him because he wasn't very good, particularly with his salary. But to say Chatfield is "noticeably better" seems to be a big stretch to me.

GA/60: Bear (last year) 2.69; Chatfield (this year) 2.7
GF%: Bear 50%; Chatfield 40%
xGA/60: Bear 2.54; Chatfield 2.43
xGF%: 55.1%; 55.7%
SCA/60: 24.84; 23.85
HDCA/60: 11.51; 12.83

Now who they play with, the competition they face, and the team in front of them is part of it, but Chatfield and CDH are giving up way too many chances and goals for the competition level they face. He's not noticeably better to me and it's not a high bar to clear.

I think people think Chatfield is better than he is because he's fast and so chaotic, so he's noticeable and forgive his bad reads, bad pinches, bad angles, etc...

Hopefully you guys are right and he turns it around but the 3rd pairing is a real sore spot right now.

It worked for Rasmus Ristolainen! :sarcasm:

Kidding of course, but I hope you are right, because right now, he's not very good.

Chatfield has zero points in 22 games. Even for a physical, defensive 3rd pair D that isn't cutting it.

Coghlan isn't the solution either but Chatfield falls far short of NHL regular for a Cup contender.
