Hawks come back to beat the Sens in OT. Somebody must have finally told Kane that if he does ultimately want to get traded, he might want to produce. He scored a couple of goals.
He seems to only want to go to O6 teams or other big market teams that don't have the cap space or assets to acquire him. I mean that's his right and he has already won 3 cups so he can be a pretentious d-bag.

so it's basically down to us and New Jersey for Meier, Kane's exercising his NMC unless he goes exactly where he wants to, and I'll believe Larkin leaves Detroit when I see it. Going to be a rather boring deadline because most of the good pieces have already been moved.

We'll end up getting someone with term. I just hope if we get RyJo or Duchene that Nashville's eating a good bit of that contract. Duchene fits more talent wise with what we need, but I wouldn't bet against him going full on green jacket again if he's moved from Nashville.

Vegas is still out there. Talk about a team willing to overpay for a run too

I agree with Bleed here. I'm still flabbergasted at that price. I know ROR has a great rep and all but geez the guy is less than 0.5 PPG this year and is -24. I kinda figured they would have gotten a discount for his shitty stats this year, but it doesn't look that way at all. A 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and a 4th is pretty steep. We're lucky we already have our better version in Jordan Staal. My guess is that St. Louis kept asking for Knies and the Leafs caved a bit in terms of value of draft picks to get the deal done without Knies.

Although the East has been an arms race, the good news is we can probably take out the Rangers, Islanders, and Leafs from future transactions. As the supply of buyers dwindles, we have slightly better leverage. And so far our biggest foes in the East (New Jersey and Boston) haven't made their moves yet. They certainly will.

Yea I would've been ok with that price last year, but this year's precipitous drop off is concerning

I just looked at RORs 3 games since coming back from injury. He had 2 goals and an assist, around 18 minutes per game, +4. Hot streak, or is he rejuvenated? And maybe more importantly, will that foot hold up for the rest of the season?

I think he probably wasn't really playing that poorly beforehand, even though he wasn't scoring. He was getting stuck with the toughest assignments, by far, with not so great line-mates (Saad and Leivo). His xGF% was the best among centers, as was the HDCF%, but the on ice SH% and SV% was terrible, so the scoring and +/- stats suffered, but there was bound to be a regression to the mean.

The following is an excerpt from the Hockey Writers

It is still unknown what this could mean or if the NHL is capable of this type of power move. It does not appear that the NHL is anxious to start its own RSN like MLB, as shifting media platforms isn’t as easy as it sounds. It may be a better plan for the NHL to go all-in and partner with ESPN, which is already broadcasting many of the games nationally. Their brand recognition may be a short-term method to recoup any loss in revenues.

The NHL will see their expected profits drop due to this shifting broadcast problem. This may lead to a lack of player signings and trades due to a lack of cap space. One way to open up space for movement could be negotiating with the NHLPA to add compliance buyouts for this offseason. It may also lead to the NHL looking to add more advertising revenue, which could lead to more ads on team sweaters, or worse, more digital ads littering the screens during gameplay. This problem means the NHL will need to get creative to find a way to keep growing HRR, and that may also mean that the cap could drop temporarily as the league regroups.

The East 3rd place teams would be division leads out west...
Looking at GF-GA, Carolina has climbed up to +41. Toronto (+44), NJ (+43) are the only other teams in the 40s. Rangers (+39), Dallas (+37), and TBL (+33) are next in line

Boston is absurdly at +90. o_O

And Anaheim is equally absurdly at -95. Next closest is Chi at -67

To follow on to my last post and @Tryamw 's post. In addition, 5 of the bottom 6 teams (points %) in the NHL are also out west. Only CLB is in the bottom 6 from the east.

It would be 1 thing if all the teams in the west were tightly packed and beating up on each other, but not only are the "best" western teams not near the top of the NHL standings, the worst western teams are truly at the bottom of the standings.

Seeing how all the big market spenders will be on the yes side of this, it won’t matter if the Canes are opposed
And it is the some of the smaller markets coming to the big markets with hats in hand asking for help from them and their safe local broadcasters (NESN, MSG, etc.). I bet they won’t even peep at the thought of opposing those types of buyouts.

Oh god no. Not more compliance buyouts to bail out the league's drunkards again. I hope teams like Carolina fight tooth and nail to keep those monstrosities out of the picture.
Should allow them buyouts but only down TO the salary cap, not below...they shouldn't be able to gain any cap space with the buyouts because they bloated the market and overpaid. Stop saving GMs from stupid mistakes without consequences...it's like giving rich people light sentences bc the suffer from "affluence"
