That sucks. We could have used him.
Not really. Currently 2nd in GSAx.Helle running away with the Vezina.
You remember something that never happened?I remember when Dubas was going to the Pens and win the Stanly Cup right away.
The Edmonton obsession people have here is a whole lot weirder than the one involving the team which now employs our previous GM.A bit?
I miss when this was an around the league thread, and not just a Pittsburgh and Edmonton bash fest.
They're both weird and stupid. Who cares what team employs our previous GM.The Edmonton obsession people have here is a whole lot weirder than the one involving the team which now employs our previous GM.
Why not? Lots of people still like railing on Lou and Babcock many years after the fact (which I have absolutely no issue with). They're both weird and stupid. Who cares what team employs our previous GM.
Discussing a former executive's time with the Leafs/the moves they made/the lasting impacts they had in the correct threads is very different from cluttering up the around the league thread with endless railing against their new team and everything they do. These people have been given free reign to get their irrational hate on everywhere else, but some of us like to keep up to date on NHL matters, and it's exhausting having to wade through 5 pages of the same old nonsense every time Pittsburgh plays a game. Why not? I've said it before, I'll say it again, Pens ownership wouldn't have let any GM or POHO walk in gut the Crosby-led Pens without trying to give it one more push.Listening to a Pens watcher yesterday. Karlsson is a tire fire on defence, that contract is untradeable. Everyone saw the Pens were in decline, their window was closing. Why Dubas went all in that off season, a combination of hubris and bad instincts, which will now cost them. Jarry was also another goalie blunder, which has become his mo, brutal long term deal.
Also a third rounder in three years is a pretty sad return on Eller.
Realistically that pick doesn't play until 2030 or 31. How does that help rebuild? Also nobody thought Karlsson was tradeable, only Dubas and his smartest guy in the room routine thought it a good idea. This deal is going exactly as expected.I've said it before, I'll say it again, Pens ownership wouldn't have let any GM or POHO walk in gut the Crosby-led Pens without trying to give it one more push.
God, Dubas really does suck with goalies though, eh?
The thing that perks my ears is the comment about that pick, though. A 3rd and 5th for Eller is a fine return, really.
But there seems to be more hangup on the 2027 aspect.
I get "a bird in hand..." etc., but a 3rd in 2027 is still a 3rd. Like, come 2027, the team nor fans will care where it came from, just that they have an extra pick now. Pushing it out also gives you a little more time figure out what you want to do. You can still flip it and buy, if the team finds themselves in that position. Or if the team goes for a full-on rebuild, you often want to spread out the picks anyway, so you don't have all your prospects come in at once, and they have 10 picks next year already.
Idk... more of a general question, I guess, not even necessarily about this Pittsburgh trade. There just seems to be more dislike for deferred picks than they kind of call for.
Regardless of when it happens in the coming days, 1000 points at the age of 27 is an incredible accomplishment.McDavid at 999. Truly hope he hits 1000 against the Preds tomorrow otherwise you just know that we'll never hear the end of it if it comes against Toronto.
Imagine the people who droned on about Lou and Marleau for years advocating we move on from Dubas talk. Incredible lack of self awareness.

GMs tend to prefer immediate returns so that they can benefit from it, instead of the next guy. Doesn't really make a difference for the team itself, though deferred might actually be better in Pittsburgh's situation. The thing that perks my ears is the comment about that pick, though. I'm sure he's delighted, beats the alternative.Poor Reimer
Crazy that the Jets have the best start to a season in NHL history.
