Not really. From what I’ve seen the new owners are very impressive, SLC is beautiful and seemingly a terrific market for hockey.

It’s surprising for a team that’s just relocated (which was playing in a college arena the past year).

I think it says more about what a mistake it was to put franchises in Ottawa and Winnipeg (and Columbus).

All I've been hearing on the radio in the last few weeks is how Buffalo, Ottawa and Detroit are the same old teams - struggling and not serious contenders. Then I looked at the standings today and Ottawa has 10 points and the other teams have 9 points (along with Boston and Montreal). We have 11.

I get people need to talk about something, but, f***, wait until 20-25 games have passed until you start fortune telling.

Only if you look at it from a capitalistic, profit-maximizing standpoint. But frankly, Ottawa and Winnipeg are perfectly reasonable places to have hockey teams.

Pretty easy to understand.

However, we know "growing the sport" is more important than having good teams.

And for fans maybe it was a mistake in Arizona (yes it was), and attendance would indicate additional teams could be mistakes:

I would suggest that is the only standpoint the owner of a professional sports franchise cares about.

Utah owner also owns the Jazz of the NBA. Salt Lake is easily a better sports town than the 3 cities you mentioned. When was the last time Ottawa sold out consistenly? Columbus? Winnipeg was bleeding subscriptions as recent as last season.

Yep, Jets and San Jose, along with Sabres and Ducks.

Another team in SWO would do better, but that would just be for hockey fans, not American football fans.

They are playing good vs DRW and up 2-0 (good for us)

Tampa (Vasilevsky) and Jets (Hellybuck) are two elite goalied teams whose goalies usually stink vs our offense

When you look at the way NFL and NBA promotes its teams and players compared to the way NHL promotes its sport, its night and day. NBA and NFL create so much hype even when there is nothing to be excited about but they have their magic formula.

When LeBron has no idea that there is also a hockey team playing at the Staples Centre called the Kings (the same team that had Gretzky on it) it shows how far behind the NHL is.

As big a fan as I am I quite frankly couldn't name the head coach of Columbus, or their goalie or players not named Monahan.
