Is Colorado trying to corner the market on acquiring mediocre goalies? They just go from one to another.
Yeah. What an odd trade. Georgiev has been awful and just may not be the guy. But the two -woods don't scream to be it either.

I think San Jose did quite well coming out of that deal.

I can understand today's trade from the perspective of both teams. COL is the team with expectations that brings in the goalie who's been faring better in the here and now while SJ acquires what they can for Blackwood's expiring contract because Askarov and the seasons beyond this one are their future.

I still don't get why Colorado didn't sign Stolartz in the off-season. He would have been perfect for them.

I'm shocked he isn't connected to the umm, umm.

Never mind.

I’m not sure what I think of these Anaheim jerseys. I think I like them? I think the orange looks pretty good.
I think they need to go all the way back.

I will be shocked if Brady isn't traded within a year or two. There is no chance he is finishing that contract in Ottawa.

It's probably the safest bet imaginable in the nhl. Likely would have done so already if they didn't make him captain

People love to harp on this tax thing, despite player agents confirming that it makes little to no difference because of tax strategies available to high-earners, because it feeds into the "woe is us" complex.

Trotz has flat out said low tax areas have an advantage

The Buffalo/Detroit game played out literally exactly how a Buffalo/Detroit game should play out. I pray one of these teams ends up in the 8th seed so that the Leafs can play them in the first round.

You're missing the key point of what he said:

"When you talk to Stamkos or Marchessault or players that are serial winners, guys that have gone deep, have had good careers, and made a lot of money, it doesn't go that far," Trotz continued. "But it does help the middle group a little bit. For the elite players, the top players, they're just looking for a place that's serious about winning, wants to win, fits in their window."

In other words, if you have a lot of money, this stuff doesn't matter. It doesn't factor into the decision-making of high-end players.

What's really interesting to me is the potential return.
It actually wasn't that terrible of an offer, namely
-Sam Bennett
-Choice of Adam Fox/Oliver Kylington
-2017 1st
-2018 1st

Each of the above players were/are successful in their own right
And the firsts turned out to be Juuso Valimaki and Noah Dobson

But while Ovechkin stayed in Washington and is still there, not a single one of those main pieces is left in Calgary, and the residuals are slim quite slim too even

Sam Bennett - traded for Emil Heineman and 2nd
-Emil Heineman - traded for Tyler Toffoli
---Tyler Toffoli - traded for Yegor Sharangovich, and 3rd
------3rd - drafted Aydar Suniev
-2nd - traded for Calle Jarnkrok (SEA drafted David Goyette)
---Calle Jarnkrok - left via UFA
Adam Fox - traded for Elias Lindholm and Noah Hanifin
-Elias Lindholm - traded for Andrei Kuzmenko, Hunter Brzustewicz, Joni Jurmo, 1st, and 4th
---1st - drafted Matvei Gridin
---4th - traded for 5th, and 6th (PHI drafted Heikki Ruohonen)
------5th - drafted Luke Misa
------6th - drafted Eric Jamieson
Oliver Kylington - left via UFA

2017 1st - drafted Juuso Valimaki
-Juuso Valimaki - claimed off waivers
2018 1st - traded for Travis Hamonic, and 4th (NYI drafted Noah Dobson)
-Travis Hamonic - left via UFA
-4th - drafted Lucas Feuk; left via UFA

I won't claim any outcome is better than the others, but just interesting that where they currently have Brzustewicz, Gridin, Jamieson, Jurmo, Kuzmenko, Misa, Sharangovich, and Suniev there are multiverses out there where that same perceived value is icing them a roster with Bennett, Dobson, Fox, Kylington, and Valimaki, or a roster with just Ovechkin.
