With the acquisition of Jones the Panthers are undeniably a better team today than they were yesterday.

You can argue if Florida paid a fair price. You can argue if Jones contract is any good. What is undeniable truth is that Jones will improve Florida's chances at winning another cup more than Knight and the 1st ever will.

Treliving better get off his butt and do something.

If I was Matthews seeing this unfold I wouldn't be happy. The objective is to win this year... THIS year. Hoarding futures and prospects does nothing to help win a cup now.

Management is clearly incompetent.

They tell us they're all in, that they're doing everything they can to win a cup, then sit on their hands while their competition improve. Not doing anything is a show of non-confidence in the players. Another slap in the face to an increasingly impatient fan base who were promised a Stanley Cup.

We want it all and we want it now... right now.

There is still 5 days until the deadline and most teams haven’t made their moves yet. If the deadline comes and goes and they’ve still done nothing then I agree, but right now this criticism is very premature.

Who is they? The GM never said they were all in when discussing it on Friday

We just need to move one of the 11 mil+ players to LTIR until the playoffs.

Panthers have 3 first round picks in next 3 years. They only need 2.

They can trade 1 more. It would be conditional.

I expect it will be included for the player who is acquired using Tkachuk Cap Space.
They can trade their 2025 if the condition is its top ten but it would slide to 2027
They can not trade their 2026 as it will go to the Flames or Chicago.
They can trade their 2027 with the same condition as the deal with Chicago (if the have it)
Realistically no team is trading for their 2025 as its almost impossible for it to be top ten and it will slide to 2027.
Calgary will get the 2025
Chicago will get the 2026
The can trade the 2027 with condition they still have it.

I find this stat quite wild actually, in the sense that Ovechkin has been a consistent goal scorer over the course of his career, while Gretzky was cooked as a goal scorer for a good handful of years.

Also shows how insane Gretzky's early years were with the number of goals he was putting up.
Now 10 goals and only 1,249 assists back.

Florida's move is irrelevant. Tkachuk is not coming back, and Florida is not winning anything without him healthy.

There is no evidence to support your claim. He'll be back for the playoffs is my guess, and they'll be a tough out if so. Jones could end up being a very good addition for them, and it will be interesting to see if he fulfills his potential on a better team, where he isn't relied on as much.

I think it's the opposite. There is no support to say he is coming back anytime soon. Florida is saying nothing on purpose. It unquestionably is a very bad injury.

Toronto regularly gives very little clarity on injuries, or injury status. This doesn't lead up to believe every injury is season ending, nor should it.

There is no evidence really to say he is coming back soon, nor is there evidence he won't be back. That doesn't make it unquestionable that it's a bad injury, the only thing unquestionable, is there has been no clear communication as to what is going on.

Kucherov 2.0

He'll be back for the playoffs.

Glad that joke tournament didn't injure any of the Leafs.

I have no doubt that when Florida is facing elimination, Tkachuk will dress even if it means only playing a few minutes because that is the type of player he is. But if this is in fact a torn groin muscle, which is the speculation, that is a several month recovery period.

Yeah, I don't see them sliding into the top 16, with a chance to win the lottery and get into the Top 10.

I'd like to see the written agreement on the deal for Jones though.

The first to Hawks is already conditional on having the 2026 pick, and if they don't have the 2026 it goes to 2027. Thus the 2027 is already in play to Chicago if the 2026 is gone. Correct?

In the detailed trade agreement does it specifically state they must/will get the 2026 if Calgary gets the 2025, or does it say they get the 2026 if it is available?

I want to see the fine print.

Put it this way, Chicago agreed to take the 2027 if the 2026 is not available.

And Jones isn't a rental.

Overpaid, certainly, but $7mm a year isn't crazy for a top pairing defender.

This is a good deal, especially when one of your top guys might walk in the summer.

The thing is, he won't need to be a top pairing D man in Florida... he's likely on their second pairing, where in all probability he's going to excel with lesser responsibility, and working with a guy like Ekblad to improve on his game. With the increasing cap, the $7 mil isn't a big deal, and it appears as though they will have no problems extending Ekblad and Bennett, unless their demands go off the rails. With the state tax situation, I have no doubts they'll sign both, and continue to be a strong team, as long as they get goaltending.

Ohhhh he’s 100% going to be back for the playoffs. Everybody knows that. This is Tampa/Vegas Kuch/Stone all over again.

I doubt it. I expect that he is gone until next season, other than maybe dressing in an elimination game because that's the kind of guy he is. If this is a torn ground muscle, that is months for a proper recovery.

For some reason, I just get the feeling that Bennet wants to play in Toronto. I hope him and Marner are on a line together next year. The 4 nations gave us a preview

You just know the Panthers and Lightning are going to troll the Leafs with a 3 pointer tonight.
That would truly suck. I'm not sure who I'd rather have win, but no 3 point night please. Can't they both just lose in regulation? Should be a good game though.
