It is weird. If this was a normal job and a foreman asked for his new employee to share personal photos in order to get to know him/her better, I'd bet the HR department would be involved pretty quickly telling that's too far. Personal life of an employee is not the foreman's business.

But still, seems like there was no ill intent, and Spittin Chicklets guys are looking like jackasses trying to blow up this story.

They certainly have an agenda against Babcock.

This is much ado about nothing. Babcock is trying to get to know his players so he can coach them better. There are many different ways to do this, this is just his approach. Some will like it, some won't... and that is okay. Some people are more private. Some people are more than happy to share. It doesn't sound like he's forcing people, so if people don't want to share, they don't have to.

I will say in my business life, relationships matter. Probably more than anything else actually. You can find skilled and capable people everywhere, those that can connect, built trust, care, etc... those are the people who get ahead. They tend to be the leaders and they tend to be the people that people like to work for (that isn't to say it gets the best results or the only way).

In coaching... I think to some extent, you need to know your players, their family, and their support system. Doesn't mean you need to know all the details or be friends, but the knowledge of who they are, where they come from, what buttons you can and cannot push, etc is extremely helpful to getting the most out of a player. Coaching is not a one size fits all thing anymore. You can't coach each player the exact same. You can't hold them to the exact same standard. You can't approach them with issues the same way. Having background and a base level connection outside the job aspect is critically important IMO.

1. It's a little weird, and definitely not what I'd expect from Babcock, which is probably why people's internal red flags went off.

2. That podcast really messed up, and even though they gladly play the fool for entertainment, it was a total jump of the gun and overreaction to something about which they'd only heard partial info. Just gross.

I don't even think they heard partial info. I think they heard "Babcock is asking players to see photos" and ran with it maliciously.

Babcock is a stupid idiot but he MIGHT just be ok in this situation.

Can't help but think this was done with the intent to try and burn Babcock and sow discontent.

Really kind of sucks, because I liked the energy Biz brought to the TNT studio, but if this is who he is, it'll be real easy to ignore the studio show like I do ESPNs coverage.

Biz doubling down was the weirder part imo. It's like Biz/his pod has a bone to pick with Babs specifically.

That said, being encouraged to "share" personal photos with your boss is a little strange one its own. If my boss wanted me to put photos of my gf/dog/family onto a big screen to share with my coworkers I'd feel pretty weird about it.

I mean it could have been a player who got uncomfortable with the situation told Biz and he ran with it? I can see him doubling down if that's the info he has

Yeah pretty much. I don't think it is uncomfortable as much as they think it is dumb. Either way though, Biz has had a bone to pick with Babcock for a while now and he's just using this to keep going after him. There are plenty of things to dislike about Babcock, some of them in the public sphere already... some of them not. This is just not one of those things.

Well Frankie Corrado, who is on TSN, says that he has no reason not to believe Biz about this and doesn't doubt the validity of his source(s).

Also said he hated playing for Babcock lol.

Friedman spoke to various CBJ players, some said they didn't mind, others said they didn't like it.

The one that spoke to Biz obviously didn't like it.

I would not like it if my boss tried to view my phone pictures using a tv.

I'm happy to show them my pictures but trying to view phone pics on a tv is peak boomer.

They're probably offended that the new coach is a dinosaur.

Why not both?

Great cover story.

Corrado: "Ya awna, you see I couldn't have stabbed that guy in the face 50 times, I was in Manitoba playing the Moose."

Judge: "Yeah but his brother plays for the Moose and you got ejected for stomping on his face with your skates."

Corrado: "Ah come on, that's like, irreverent or something."
