Michkov is a small goal scoring winger with 0 interest for defense or backchecking. I don't see any future at center for him in the NHL.

He's a Russian Cole Caufield.
It is simply people taking one preseason game and blowing it way out of proportion. Some to probably troll the Habs, some to big brain things. People should not take small sample sizes or meaningless games and extrapolate.

who's the last player to go from wing to center after their draft?
generally players go the other direction ...
Patrick Laine was playing center last season prior to his season ending injury. But your point is still pretty valid, it's much rarer for wingers to start playing center at the NHL level than it is for centers to get pushed to winger.

Out of curiosity, because I haven't really looked into it, but does anyone know what percentage of NHL wingers were drafted as centers? It could lead to some fun conversations about draft theory. Should you take mostly centers with the expectation that most of them will switch to wing in the NHL or should you go out and get wingers at the draft instead? Or is it BPA? How much does playing center give you boost as BPA over a winger with similar numbers? Should that be the case considering how many kids get drafted at C but then switch?

Can someone tell me what am I missing on Michkov? Looking at his KHL stats, they’re not all that impressive and now he’s been a healthy scratch to start this season

Uhhhh... 20 Points in 27 games as a 17/18 year old is extremely impressive.

For reference, 18 year old Alex Ovechkin put up 23 points in 52 games in the KHL.

Well in that case, Kovalenko should be an elite superstar in the NHL. I know he’s older than Michkov, but my point is I was expecting more when I checked his stats

Elite iq and shot. Rest of the game has yet to come around, but it likely will. Should be a good top line guy with the upside of elite being easily the realm of possibility. Just watch the kid and you’ll see the talent.

I wouldn’t compare his stats to Ovi or really any other major Russian currently. The leagues are worlds different now. KHL is even worlds different than 6-7 years ago.

No he shouldn't... He's almost 24. It isn't even remotely comparable.

You shouldn't be expecting more. A 0.65 ppg as a teenager in the KHL is extremely impressive, even if the league isn't anywhere near as strong as it once was. Its extremely impressive and Michkov will be a superstar in the NHL.

Well they also say Michkov is just one dimensional offensive player, he’s also small in size. 5’10 147. The height is not that bad, but 147 is too skinny. He was also a healthy scratch to start this season. All I’m saying is maybe the hype is too much right now. People were saying he should have gone 2nd overall after Bedard

Those stats are probably 2 years old quite frankly(Go to Elite Prospects if you want up to date stats), he's about 175 and should fill out to ~185, about the same size as Bedard. The KHL scratching is 100% politics, he's the best player on his team.

Quite frankly if he was Canadian and a Center he would have went 1st overall.

Hockey db needs to update its stuff I guess. 175 from 147 is a big difference

The KHL scratching isn’t politics. It is how they choose to develop young players. They all go through this process no matter the talent.

So Tampa puts Archibald on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination and then signs Motte for 800K. Damn! I know he has a bad injury history and all but I think he would have been worth it for near league min.

I wouldn't sell it if I were you. It could be worth a lot of money later on. He is about to break out. He is only 28. :sarcasm:

Yeah, maybe if he buys it. 🤣

I'm sure if I posted it on Icejerseys, and linked it on Twitter, I could find at least a couple Zadorov fan boys to bid on it lol.

Agreed. Very much looking forward to the season this year. Feels like the first year in a while where I really dont know how good/bad the team is going to do. I think they could be anywhere from top in the division and fighting for 1st in the league, or quite frankly I see more than a couple scenarios where they're on the outside looking in of the wildcard picture in the last few weeks of the season.

Very interested to see how all the Avs high risk moves work out this year. Could go either way I think.

It is.. so many balls in the air. It's a lot more fun than trying to hope Newhook or Jost is a 2C though.

That was like that whole blood and turnip thing.. You just know it's not going to happen but it was tried anyway. 🤣

I've been talking about Manson scaring me for a minute. Kinda funny it caught fire just now lol. The season is close!!

Archibald put this in motion by informing the team he would not be reporting to training camp and is not planning on playing hockey for the time being.
