Kotkaniemi finally breaking out into a solid 2C.

Even as late as last year Habs fans were patting themselves on the back and crackling with glee that they had turned a #3 overall pick into Christian Dvorak of whatever trash they ended up getting.

This is what I said in regards to that tweet, a year ago here:
Maybe I'm just biased as a Finn, but I don't understand why some people are so quick to write Kotkaniemi off. Will he ever live up to the draft position? No. Could he still become a good NHLer and provide good value through that contract? Absolutely. It has been an atrocious start for his season, but the guy is only 22. The cap hit is under 5, and with the cap going up it's should not be that hard for him to hit a level where you can be happy with that contract.

As for whether or not the Habs did the right choice in letting him go, they probably did. The player was not happy there, and the OS was brutal for Montreal.
Well, turns out we didn't even have to wait for the salary cap to go up. That 4.82m AAV looks pretty good for a PPG center now.

Signs were there last season that it finally clicked. More impressive than his offensive numbers to start, he's taken another step defensively too. I'm not sure he has the talent to really ever cross the 60 point realm with any consistency... but if he plays defense like he is, that won't matter. A 50-55 point, high end defensive 2C is a hell of a weapon.

Kinda surprised we haven't seen a coaching change already. Yes, it has only been 10-15% of the season, but US Thanksgiving comes fast in 2 weeks. Your season can be down the drain by then if you don't act.

The week before US Thanksgiving is usually the chopping block week. I'd expect a couple heads to roll next week.

IIRC the Blues were 2nd to last in the league in 2018 and made the change to Berube a couple days before.

I don’t think there’s a player in the league who’s better than kucherov on the half wall during a powerplay. When the guy is on he can make a pass no matter how many players are in front of the net. What a 20 mins for him in the leafs game tonight
