I'm a little torn on where to be cheap. On one hand, the difference in coaching abilities between the bottom 20-25 coaches is so small that you could probably pick randomly out of 10 and still end up with similar results. If we are talking a 2-3 point difference in capabilities... a good third liner might actually be more valuable. I'd argue a legit backup goalie is worth the price difference. On the other hand, if you can grab an elite coach, you'd be kinda stupid not to. If Rod the Bod ends up available, you back that Brink's truck up. He's getting you in the playoffs and worth every penny.

I think they did that to show the inmates can't run the asylum, but it is rather dumb. Accept the shelf life and if it doesn't work, you move on. IMO they should have pushed for 2 years with an option for a third. In that case, you simply take the chance that his 2nd full time NHL gig will be his best (and there are stats backing that)... and that the difference between Berube and Green simply wasn't worth the extra.

Yeah I don't think Berube is some massive upgrade on Green to be sure, but IMO Evason probably is, Julien--even though I think he doesn't really fit the mould of what you want in an NHL coach these days--would be as well.

It could very well be that the Sens might be contemplating a very expensive solution to their goaltending woes. The Korpedo's contract has to be the worst one for a goalie in the league, and I read somewhere that while he wasn't the worst goalie in the league statistically speaking, no single netminder hurt his team more. No matter who the coach is, ain't no way they're succeeding with Korpisalo in net.

I think any team that hires Evason next will be pretty happy. If I was making the 2nd tenure bet, he's the name I'd go for. The guarantee to be better, but accept a short shelf life is Gallant (IMO any team looking to get over the hump into the playoffs should hire him). The highest upside is Carle (HM to Halpern).

Korpi is a fine backup or even 1B. Expecting him to be a starter just doesn't end well. Especially the quality of starter Ottawa needs. Korpi on say Vegas probably does fine. No way anybody touches that contract though without a lot coming back.

Is he going to get another chance? I'm starting to doubt it.

There's a finite number of GM's you can piss off before ending up on the black list.

Though, as Jack Campbell is playing in the AHL, I guess you were somewhat correct to say Korpisalo has the worst contract in the league?

Well, most of the contract is still in the NHL so I'd say you're still right.

Oh, he'll get another shot at some point. But yeah he's got a rep now, GMs are not gonna be busting down his door.

I'd bet he does, but I don't think he's option 1, 2 or 3 for anybody. He's the guy that a team struggling midseason hires to shake things up. Go from a player coach to getting results. I can't see a team lining up to pick him from candidates in the summer just due to his nature.

Good stuff

He spent the first 30 seconds talking about how he was right and the rest of the Toronto media was wrong. I shut it off. Have no f***ing clue what he actually had to say and now, I'll never want to either.

You're a f***ing journalist, you don't get to spike the football. Quit stroking yourself on TV, idiot.

Once you get past that he actually makes some very salient points. Basically he says changes need to be made, but he has no confidence whatsoever that they will be made.

And just FYI, Sid Seixero isn't really a journalist, he's a television host, he's more about entertainment than he is any sort of reporting. And that's fine, plenty of people like that in the industry.

Paying 4 players superstar money for half the cap space is not how you build a team. I've no problem with him hammering that point.

I'm a sucker for the draft lottery, I always get excited for it.

Combined with the game tonight...today is a good hockey day.

I just read that Vegas is the first-ever team in NHL history to win the Cup with a $10+ million AAV player on its roster.

In hindsight, yeah, maybe the right play back in the day would've been to give Matthews his coin, Nylander his $6 million AAV or whatever it was, and telling Marner to go pound sand.

Props for even giving Bakersfield a chance… that place is…. Not great.

Thanks! We just kinda ended up in there on our way to Vegas, never even heard about the place. So I have a very unbiased, self-claimed opinion about the city: worst city of our trip, easily.

Whaaatttt you didn't enjoy Pueblo :sarcasm: jk to anyone who lives in Pueblo.

But seriously Pueblo sucks.

Pueblo offered us nothing. Really enjoyed Denver and it's surroundings, also thought that Colorado Springs was a nice place.

Now we're at Cimarron NM, it's windy as hell. You guys get these winds every spring?!

Marner (10.903 AAV) for Sorokin and Romanov (10.725 AAV)

Who says no?
