He’s been good but there are at least 15 better d-men for Norris consideration. Ekholm is no where near it. If there was a best defensive d-men award, maybe Ekholm would be top 5 there
Strongly disagree. Who would those 15 even be?

It's no coincidence the Oilers record since acquiring Ekholm last year has been absurd. He has gotten to another level in Edmonton after leaving Nashville.

Hughes
Makar
Josi
Bouchard
Dobson
Heiskenen
Hedman
McAvoy
Morrissey
Fox

And you can probably put at least 5 more there before Ekholm. Ekholm doesn’t really have the offensive drive to be in Norris conversations. Those are the top 10 Norris favorites right now. You can put guys like Dahlin, Weegar etc.. after the top 10

Ekholm has easily been better than Morrissey and Dobson this season. He's also literally the reason Evan Bouchard plays as well as he does.

Like I said, Ekholm would be top 5 if there was a defensive d-man award. He just doesn’t bring enough offense to be considered for Norris

The fact that Mark Stone pretends his back is heavy damaged and hurting but golfing is no "Problem" means Stone will play in the playoffs, book it. Maybe not in Game 1, Round 1 because it would be to obvious.
He doesn’t pretend he has a back issue, because he doesn’t. He has a lacerated spleen.

This is funnier than that video I saw of Nurse pinching against the Stars when they got beat 5-0 the other week. Literally every Flyer on the ice looks like they don't know what they're doing.

Flyers a falling hard... What a Gong-Show....

The coaching carousel could get quite interesting this summer.

Guys who likely aren't going to be back next year: Granato, Green, Hiller, Bannister, Martin.

Guys whose future is in doubt for various reasons: Tourigny, Lalonde, Vincent, and yes, Tortorella.

I also kinda wonder about Keefe and Sullivan, and if Vegas chokes spectacularly down the stretch, Cassidy is in HUGE trouble. I think Hakstol stays on but he'll be on a very short leash. And given his goaltending situation he'll likely be the first guy axed in 2024-25.

So we're looking at probably five, upwards of maybe, what, eight or nine openings (I don't think it'll be THAT many though)?

Certainly some old guy will get recycled, but beyond that, who are the next hotshot candidates? Does former Av Mitch Love finally get a shot?

So all and all a normal amount of turnover?

Jay Leach, Steve Ott, and David Carle also all probably play a role in the cycle. Warskofsky probably needs a different organization to get a head NHL chance. Jay Pandolfo is a year away, but may take some interviews.

they know exactly what they're doing

In all seriousness I sure hope Carle doesn't make the jump that quickly. Pandolfo has proven to be an elite coaching talent at the NCAA level, I hope he stays for a bit too.

Can't believe I didn't list Quinn, but it's possible he stays since the Sharks are clearly tanking next year too. May as well stick with the guy who's helping you in that endeavor.

Rocky Thompson was surely on the way to an NHL bench but the vaccine thing and now the collapse in Philly have severely hurt his chances.

Lol telling Arizona they can have an expansion team later is like saying you wanna stay friends with your ex
The difference is the NHL will contractually have to do it. They are forcing Muruelo to sell his team and that's the sweetener.

That promise is going to be written on the sale contract, that's for sure.

there are two sides of that contract that will need to be met
Yea if he gets an arena he 100% gets an expansion team.

Everyone wins in this story:

- SLC gets a team early and can start making money right off the bat (as opposed to the team losing money in AZ).

- The NHL keeps it's beloved AZ market on the long run with the expansion promise and they stop losing face with the Mullet arena situation.

- Current owner will stil have an NHL team at the end of the day

win-win-win

If Arizona can provide the stable ownership and arena that has alluded them for 30 years then sure go ahead

Arizona turned a profit in 22 and 23.

It's no coincidence that just last week:

The Yotes publicly posted that they'd win an auction for the land to build the arena. (They preemptively wanted to reassure people that they'll be back).

SLC owner publicly asked for the name of a hockey team.

It's been done deal for a while.

They are losing money for other teams. Yotes were still dead last in the NHL in revenue in 2022-23:

does anyone even believe these numbers? There's no way Toronto made only ~2x what Arizona made in revenue. These numbers are fudged to control a narrative give me a break
