Avs paid up but Mittelstadt has been such a great fit and instant contributor unlike some of the other additions out there. So glad the Avs paid the price rather than going for Lindholm, Henrique, Monahan, etc.

I actually wanted Lindholm at the time.

Yeah, it was 100% worth it. The position is solved for the future now.

Monahan would’ve been brutal. The Avs need more than points at 2C. They need someone who can help manage the game and help all over the ice.

It’s amazing how bad the Sabres are literally every year.

Btw Byram’s numbers are ugly in Buffalo. Not posting it in the trade thread because of the weird discussion that leads to with certain posters but it’s bad. Nasty underlying numbers.
I was hoping we could get a update on both players

And that checks with what we saw from him this year.

Which is why a large portion of the fan base was so happy with the trade, considering we got Mittelstadt.

It’s a potential based move for Buffalo, they’re hoping he can develop.

To be totally fair, he's hurt and probably was hurt pretty much the moment the trade happened.
whatever it is, Nucks will be screwed big time if they can’t resign Lindholm and don’t win the cup. This is why you don’t pay big price for rentals

The underlyings were also nasty here. But it was far easier to hide his play here. In Buffalo there's no system and it's a free for all where everyone bar a couple players can't defend to save their lives.

They didn't pay that much, when you look at it from their perspective.

Whatever they gave up will consider a loss if they don’t win the cup and can’t resign Lindholm. There is no plus side for Vancouver in that case

Obviously, but that goes for every team that makes TDL additions in the form of rentals.

We don't have the prospect pool to do stuff like that. Vancouver didn't give up a top prospect in that trade.
We could have given up something like 1st and Ritchie for Lindholm. If we won the cup, it would be worth it, if not then it would have been a big loss because we couldn’t resign Lindholm.

Smarter move was Byram for Mittelstadt. Whatever happens, Mitts will be an Av for more than one season

The Avs were never going to offer that because if they were, Calgary would have jumped all over that and probably retained half of Lindholm's contract while sending the Avs a bouquet of flowers, too.

Oh I 100% agree. Just saying that it's not that big of risk from Vancouvers POV. It would've been for us, because of our prospect and asset capital is not the same.
