This has nothing to do with the NHL but watching the Canada Slovakia game replay at the Gretzky Hlinka this morning and I don’t think I’ve seen a single bodycheck.

My old man rant of the day: The 16-17 year olds coming up have lost that skill so now when they make the bigs and get popped in the NHL there must be retribution and a fight because they have no idea how to play contact hockey or take a hit as they aren’t used to it.

Game is sure losing a lot as it evolves into a non contact sport.

But keep teaching the kids to turn their back to the play on the boards, to watch their pretty passes, to skate with the puck head down and to block slap shots….(a teenaged SSAC player was killed blocking a slap shot several years ago).

Reading what Nuck fans have to say about their blue line this off season has been making me laugh. "Forbort and Desharnais are so big wow!"

Their blue line was a problem for them in the playoffs and it got worse. Somehow though, in the eyes of Nuck fans, it got better.

Wow, destroy the confidence of a 3rd year bottom pairing defenseman by playing him in a role he won't be able to handle, while at the same time making their freshly signed bad contract(who was a disaster away from Hughes if I remember correctly) crash and burn in the first year.

Tocchet clearly following the Sutter model of coaching - win the jack adams award for a flash in the pan season, lose in the 2nd round to the Oilers, and then find a way to get fired by the end of the next season.

I think he probably saw in the playoffs that after their first pair the Nucks don’t have a lot to offer back there. Likely a faint attempt at spreading the wealth, but the thought of Desharnais playing top pair for any amount of time is laughable.

I really don't get this logic.

You paid this guy 8.25mil because he worked well with Hughes. Now your plan is to take him, a guy whom your main critique of is him deferring too much, and asking him to drive a top 4 pairing with career 3rd pairing talent in Soucy or Forbort next to him?
