Maybe for the draft geeks, but there seems to be separate behind the scenes books about the Oilers, Leafs, and Red Wings drafts over the years. I'm debating if it's worth the money, although I might splurge on one and consider the rest. I wonder if it'll be a fluff piece or might put some people in poor light. Some interesting stories that I know of:
Oilers - In the 90's, their head scout apparently lived in Mexico. So that didn't exactly ring well among the fan base as they whiffed on several high picks, namely passing over Shane Doan when they were draft hosts in 1995. I think they tried to draft an ineligible player with a mid-round pick another year.
Leafs - Passed on Petr Sykora in 1995 in part to assistant GM Bill Watters being family friends with eventual pick Jeff Ware.
Red Wings - Head scout Hakan Andersson found Pavel Datsyuk by accident while scouting Dmitri Kalinin. Watching Datsyuk play was a logistical nightmare, so he only saw him twice. He tried to go back a third time but the plane was grounded due to mechanical issues. Andersson spotted a couple rival scouts on the flight, so who knows if history would have been different if the flight commenced.
I also remember a draft floor video in 2008 when Wings GM Ken Holland was paranoid that the Devils were going to snipe their pick. He then mentioned how we stole Sheldon Souray from them in 1994; We traded up to get Souray at #71 and Detroit had pick #75.
