Maybe for the draft geeks, but there seems to be separate behind the scenes books about the Oilers, Leafs, and Red Wings drafts over the years. I'm debating if it's worth the money, although I might splurge on one and consider the rest. I wonder if it'll be a fluff piece or might put some people in poor light. Some interesting stories that I know of:

Oilers - In the 90's, their head scout apparently lived in Mexico. So that didn't exactly ring well among the fan base as they whiffed on several high picks, namely passing over Shane Doan when they were draft hosts in 1995. I think they tried to draft an ineligible player with a mid-round pick another year.

Leafs - Passed on Petr Sykora in 1995 in part to assistant GM Bill Watters being family friends with eventual pick Jeff Ware.

Red Wings - Head scout Hakan Andersson found Pavel Datsyuk by accident while scouting Dmitri Kalinin. Watching Datsyuk play was a logistical nightmare, so he only saw him twice. He tried to go back a third time but the plane was grounded due to mechanical issues. Andersson spotted a couple rival scouts on the flight, so who knows if history would have been different if the flight commenced.

I also remember a draft floor video in 2008 when Wings GM Ken Holland was paranoid that the Devils were going to snipe their pick. He then mentioned how we stole Sheldon Souray from them in 1994; We traded up to get Souray at #71 and Detroit had pick #75.

Gudbranson showing why he was Columbus’ number one off-season target and worth a 4 year/4m deal.

He's the 16 million dollar man.

I wouldn't be surprised if it comes out that Columbus was trying to sign Erik Cernak but their GM mixed up the player names and gave the contract to Gudbranson instead. Similar to the Finger situation.

He’s sucked for a very good chunk of his career.

I think the only time he hasn’t sucked was when he first got to Pittsburgh and then last year playing for Sutter.

I never understood fans being sold on him finally finding his game at 30 years old after last year, but I can understand an NHL front office (a mediocre one at that) being sold on it.

Well, I guess everyone is going to look bad when you get shithoused 8-1. But that's outrageously bad even in that situation.

Also, looking at the box score, I was surprised to see that Stefan Noesen is still in the league. Good for him.

Noesen led the AHL in goals last season, he can't skate well enough to play in the NHL anymore but he's still got a lot of ability.

He’s presumably going back to AHL where he’s one of the league’s best players on Carolina’s ridiculously good Calder trophy winning team in Chicago.

Noesen just got a generous two year, 2 way deal (550k guaranteed this season and a 775k salary next season).

I guess he could get a call up after Ondrej Kase inevitably goes down, I don’t know their RW depth chart, but he only got 2 NHL games last year while scoring a AHL leading 48 goals.

The tweet mentioned that Talbot is out until mid-late November. So I imagine Hellberg will get some action backing up Anton Forsberg.

Naturally most people are bummed that Hellberg got awesome custom pads that might go unused. Although I think there's a good chance that Seattle reclaims Hellberg once Ottawa has to make room for a healthy Talbot.

Seattle only has three healthy goalies under contract, so they might have to scramble to find a warm body for their AHL team. Last year they split an AHL team, so they didn't have to worry as much but now they have their own affiliate in Palm Springs.

those pads are pretty sweet i wonder why more goalies don't do similar designs on theirs? i remember MAF early on having those bright gold/yellow pads and thought that was a cool look.

Seems like a lot for guy who hasn't been a PPG in 5 years. But good for the Isles for getting their best forward signed to a max deal.

Trotz neutered him. 85 pts as a rookie which is the most productive rookie year since Malkin in 06-07. 67 pt pace since over the last 4 years. I think this deal will prove to be good for them and he'll pop off under a freer system

Edit: He should be much much better

Look at this absolutely f***ing disgusting shit...

looks brutal but was only a matter of time you can't even fault them anymore because they are in it to make $$$$$ ads are going to come to jerseys not just hockey but all jerseys. only sport i can see surviving this would be the nfl since they are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay outside the other leagues.

maybe because i don't have a marketing degree but i will never understand why companies spend so much money on advertising their well established existing products. in that clip shown are all products that regardless if they put their name out there or not i already know who they are and it won't change my purchasing of their products.

I would think the turnaround time would be the main thing. Most of the custom pads come from Brian's and they don't have as many NHL (or pro/NCAA) goalies compared to Bauer/Vaughn/True. Bauer has been doing some custom graphics since they've switched from a stitched graphic to a print one. Aaron Dell (Brian's guy) had some cool ones over the past couple of years:

Unfortunately goalies have almost become billboards for beer leaguers like me, so there might be mild pressure from the manufacturers that they stick the the predefined template. Craig Anderson recently joked with reporters that he let his son "design" his pads with Bauer's website.

I'm actually the opposite, any of these sponsors or ads that annoy the shit out of me I'll never purchase. I even fill that out in the surveys I get from the Devils that these sponsors sponsoring the Devils actually have a negative effect for me because I'm beyond sick of intrusive in your face advertising.

Flo and Jamie from progressive is the perfect example because I can't stand them so much that I will never, ever purchase insurance because of all of their horrid commercials. Clearly those two somehow help them sell more insurance but I do wonder if they would make more without those horrid ads.
