A repeat and he'd get 8 with ease.

Norris, Stutzle and Tkachuk = ~24.5

Nico, Jack, and Bratt (if we hopefully get Bratt for 8) = 23.25

I know which group I prefer.
I guess if Fiala got that much then Bratt can as well. In retrospect I'm surprised an undersized finesse winger got paid that much but it's the market so take it or leave it.

They also have Debrincat though and he'll top all of those guys' salaries

I assume Bratt asked for 8m or close to it and is waiting for Fitz (or someone else) to get real close to his ask.

It worked for Fiala, he asked for 8m last off-season and he got 7.875m this off-season. Clearly he used this:

I really like Stützle, though this is amusing:

The market is pretty clear on young, budding stars: Give them an $8M x 8, give or take.

Jack set that template and he'll be the best value among them. It makes more sense to go this route, pay to lock up your young stars in their prime, rather than overpay aging veterans.

I wish they had gone this route with Bratt. Hopefully, Fitz can just hand him an $8+M x 8 next offseason.

It all depends on his performance this season, I have no issue paying the man if he replicates last year’s performance!
My disappointment is that he's been the same player for a couple of years now. The NJ brass obviously wasn't sold on him even after a breakout. Something isn't lining up. If NJ needs another season from Bratt at this point their self scouting is off or Bratt isn't the player we think away from the rink and I'm skeptical of the latter issue.

The issue could be that before this year the raw production wasn't at the level it was this year and they want that repeated. If there's something else going on here and he's not here long term then we're pretty f***ed. I don't see any way Bratt brings in a massive haul like a Tkachuk and the on ice value that not having Bratt presents is insanely large. He's just not a guy you ca replace.

When they signed Hischier he was only scoring at a 50+ point rate. When they signed Jack he had not quite broken out even if he had started to trend in that direction. If you need Bratt to consistently "prove it" it's too late. You have to be able to self scout and realize who is going to see better results with a bit of maturity and a tweak or two. I fear NJ has just missed the boat on Bratt and doesn't see him the way we do as fans.

I agree with this entirely.

The Devils have mishandled Bratt and it might cost us huge down the road here.

We have no idea what Bratt was asking for. Fitz hasn’t shown me he’s the type to lowball guys (Shero either btw, who Fitz was AGM to and was most likely involved in the signings), so I doubt that putting all the blame on the team is fair.

Bratt has popped off on the 3rd year of a 3-year bridge deal @ 2,475 mil. He hadn’t had over a 50-55 pt pace before that. Saying that they mishandled him is a bit premature. It’s a pretty unique and interesting case.

I don’t think they should’ve broken the bank on him after his ELC and the bridge deal was fair for what he accomplished by then. We’ll see how things turn out but I have no doubt that if he replicates, especially early in the year, Fitz will throw him a real big long-term deal. Bratt has to accept it though. Again, the offer Fitz made him was maybe very fair.

True. We will likely never know, but why would his agent ask for something that doesn't make sense? If the agent asked for $8 to sign a long term deal that isn't looking so bad right now. I doubt the agent asked for $9 or more.

This is why I wish we just long termed Bratt.

Instead of signing Miles Wood to a one year deal that he very likely either won’t be worth, or that he won’t play enough games to even be worth.

Can’t wait till next year when we sign Blackwood to a $3 million deal after he bounces back with a strong .902% season. I’m very excited to see who gets nickel and dimed over that.
