They made the same mistake going back to Sutter that we did with Carlyle. The game has passed them by and they don't know how to relate to today's players.

Their teams are less organized than modern coaches, and the players get sick for the old hard ass routine and end up tuning out.

It reaches a point where the old coach thinks he can squeeze out every last bit of effort by being an asshole, but the players actually feel like their coach is putting in less effort than his counterparts.
Yeah, evolution has definitely had an impact on coaching these days. I think it’s still in transition but the key is finding a coach who can somehow be a players‘ coach when need be, and a hard ass when need be while not alienating the players as he goe Jekyll/Hyde.

I don't like Vegas but this is a great move, big props to them. Hockey needs new blood in how the game is presented and marketed. Vegas brings a lot of fresh blood in it, I respect that. Even if I think theor pregame shows are cringe

What happened here?

I've yet to hear the details but it seems like either hazing or possibly ongoing bullying. Both players banned from the league would have been entering their overage season next year, one the team's captain and the other a goalie.

Some dots started connecting in my head when I saw that it was their older goalie banned. They had a pretty highly regarded younger goalie (by two years) on the team who they drafted early and then surprisingly traded after his rookie season. Didn't make sense at the time but now you have to wonder if it's all connected somehow.

Oh and the team's new owner (who has also been running the hockey Ops as GM) is banned from the GM position for two years for not upholding the integrity/confidentiality of the investigation. I'm unsure if he even owned the team at the time of the alleged incident(s), but I believe he did not yet.

Noone of our players seem to be going to the Worlds (no players in the USA as well). It feels that normally at least a few of them would go after the year we had. I'd guess it could be something to do with Verbeek sending our young core to Florida to train strength in the offseason.

Not entirely true, Rocco Grimaldi is going!

Do we really have anyone here though? Realistically for Canada, we could probably only send Henrique (just got back from injury) and McTavish (who could deservedly use a long break)

At least 1 future Ducks... Fantilli/Carlsson will be there. We'll know Monday if we get the choice or if we can hope who falls to us.
