Are you saying Provorov has had pre-marital sex?

No way. What would ever temp him to commit a sin like that?

You can add this to the list then:

Wether you agree with that lifestyle or not (I couldn't get a shit wether one does or not) this is an extremely ignorant and lazy post.

Hell, I'd even take calling me a Dipshit again over that. Do better man.
You are right, it was a lazy post, and it was intentional. See the irony, given your earlier post?

Unlike the other poster, I don't want to decide. I respect one's right to free speech.
I don't see the government infringing on his right to free speech. I see people calling him either ignorant or an intolerant asshole and wanting him to face consequences for his actions.

You know, like what happened to Colin Kapernick.

I know he wasn't charged with a crime, and you're entitled to your opinion. I happen to think you are wrong in this case, and that is my opinion. I can respect his right to free speech and not have it be about the government charging him with a crime.

Fortunately in America, we don't have hate speech crimes, or thought police, yet.

This is a tough one, because I understand what you are saying, and my reaction is, is that harmful? Are there gay players who were absolutely 100% good enough to make it and didnt? I don't know, if one can show that, then maybe I can agree there's harm...

Definitely not wanting to get into a debate about LGBTQ rights in pro sports etc, but if there's no player good enough to make it, regardless of sexual preference, I fail to see where harm is....
No I didn‘t even mean in a way that affected their careers, just the harm of not being able to be open about who they are. It does cause harm, emotional and mental health.

There will be plenty of guys in the closet in the league, most certainly.

I wasn’t gonna weigh in on Provorov but 2 things came to mind.

Saying it’s against your beliefs is your right. But that also has now put a spotlight on his other actions. Christians also consider other sexual “sin” against their beliefs (porn, pre-marital sex, etc) so much spotlight on homosexuality and little attention given to other areas can be hypocritical. Not saying he does these just that the spotlight is there now.

Also, isn’t Russia known for is homophobic tendencies?
Just a brief point. ‘Some‘ Christian’s think those things. This is the difference between faith and religion because some denominations of Christian churches support gay marriage and some even allow weddings in their churches.

At the risk of keeping this hockey thread firmly in non-hockey territory, I'll say this:

"I am not a role model" - Charles Barkley, 1993

Who cares if he doesn't want to wear the jersey? Ivan Provorov isn't keeping "the movement" back. If you want to put him on your "I hate this player list" along with the reigning champ Tony DeAngelo then go for it. Guy doesn't need to be run out of the country or anything though.

Fair enough, I read it that way when you said it.....didn;t consider the above etc.

Bingo. "Stick to sports" isn't new, and it's typically not proven to be viewed favorably by history either (e.g. Jackie Robinson, Herb Carnegie, Willie O'Ree, Mohammed Ali, and so on).
Willie O'Ree played 45 NHL games. That hardly puts him in the category of athletes like Jackie Robinson or Muhammed Ali.

When it comes to hockey, guys like Grant Fuhr, Tony McKegney or Jerome Iginla were far more influential in shattering perceptions.

foolishly i open this thread again and again expecting to read something about hockey
The Bruins are pretty good this year. Do they need anything at the deadline?

Will the Kings, with their -3 goal differential. be overtaken by the Oilers and the Flames.

What am I wrong about? I said he had the right to choose not to participate and I didn't even say he should be free from society thinking he's a jerk for his actions. You know... respecting the freedom of speech of other people who are voicing it. You do realize everyone saying he should be banned from the league have the right to say it, just as much as Provorov has the right not to wear the pride jersey?

It's like when white-hooded nationalists want to go on about a superior race. They have the right to say whatever they want. And I have the right to tell them to get f***ed.

Isn't freedom of speech great?

Only moves Boston makes will be to replace a major injury really. I just don't see them needing anything if they keep rolling like this. Why introduce a new player that can break the flow of chemistry?

Agreed, I don't see any glaring weakness on their roster either.

I wish they could use an 4C checking center with a $10M cap hit though, or a backup goalie with a $5M cap hit.

Someone brought this up in the media today, if you skip the league sponsored all-star game, you are suspended a game cut and dry. This is a league wide sponsored inititive , that you chose to skip for whatever your beliefs are, yet your entire organization is behind it, should'nt you miss the game. If your beliefs are that strong, skip the game.

It's likely left up to the team or it may not be something he can be punished for according to the CBA. The ASG is a different animal.

oh for sure, but to suspend a guy for skipping the all-star game is pretty laughable. this issue is much bigger than that. He had to know this day was coming up, and its not like the day was about warm up jerseys and thats it. it was all game long. He wanted to have it both ways. If the guy wasn't liked before in the room, he didn't win anybody over with his choice not to participate.

The All-Star game suspension is about the league making money and for its sponsors.

Pride nights are about drawing in more fans to make more money. The inclusive part imho is a biproduct.

Big corporations like the NHL and its clubs are all about making money.

Ha. I wish this board had a clown of the decade award as you seem like the perfect circus leader with your history of opinions.

Starting with the famous 2012 - that the Kings will never win with Brown and Kopi.
