Somewhere around Fiala's AAV is probably the most reasonable number. I'm sure the Fitz wants around 7 and Bratt wants 9. I'm assuming the issue is more term than AAV. Bratt might be looking for 4-5 years so he can get another bite at the apple as a UFA when he's 29-ish. You can still get that 7 year deal as a UFA at that age.
It's hard to say right now. Didn't Bratt make some recent comment about being committed to NJ "long term" or something along those lines? My guess is the dispute is more about the AAV, but we are all just guessing. This whole drama seems unnecessary to me. You do raise a good point about that second bit at the apple as UFA at 28-29. Maybe that's the compromise they all live with?

i'm certain bratt will re-sign with us

the drama is overblown kinda like the "Will Wood go UFA route his senior year???" a few years back
Both contract negotiations with him were incredibly difficult. I'm not so sure why you're convinced this one will be any different.

I think a deal with Bratt will get done. He doesn’t have a high QO so he can’t just sign it and go to free agency (he isn’t playing for 5 million+ next year). That pushed things towards negotiations (and also arbitration). Team now being a bona fide contender helps.

The Canucks aren't in much better shape than we were when Lou left. They'll be bad for a while.

And this is coming from someone that thought they could actually make the playoffs in that weak division this year. But between Demko starting poorly and then getting injured, as well as their other 9000000000 holes, it wasn't happening.

Quinn Hughes is better than anyone we had at the time Lou was out (other than maybe Cory Schneider and Quinn is 6-7 years younger than Cory was then) but not much past that.

JT Miller's stupid 8 year extension after endlessly talking about trading him for a year before that. They should have just let him go and they could have traded him for something GOOD this deadline but nope. Had to extend him through his LATE 30's.

You forgot about Petersson. No one was approaching that talent level on the 2015-16 Devils.

If the Canucks did a total tear down then they’d be in a much better position than when the Devils truly started rebuilding.

If the Canucks keep trotting out an ever worsening team, signing more bad contracts, and trading away picks for 4-5 more years, then we are getting into Devils territory.

This seems like such a dumb hill to fight on, let alone die on.

Don’t like the shootout? Don’t watch.

Reality is that no one really wants the games to go longer. Players don’t want to risk injury, tv doesn’t get to sell additional ads, owners don’t make additional money. Fans wanted a winner and a loser.

3-3 is a bastardized version of hockey anyway. Skills needed are very different than 5-5. So, whatever with the shootout. It’s 3-3 too - just that three player competing with breakaways.
I’m going to have to agree to disagree.
They need a way to end the game within a reasonable amount of time .
3 on 3 in my opinion is 100x more entertaining than a shootout.
Only problem with 3 on 3 is teams trying to maintain possession in way that is getting kinda silly. Make it so once you cross the redline ,you cannot circle back / bring / pass the puck back . Similar to over and back rule in basketball. Increase the time of 3 on 3 and punt the shoot out completely.

Oh hell ya. If they went scorched earth rebuild and traded Demko Petey Hughes along with Miller Horvat Boeser Garlund Podkolzin etc….
No one would watch them for at least a year or two but they would get a hell of a return of picks and prospects. The lineup couldn’t be much worse than our infamous toilet paper lineup from a few years ago.

It’s not salvageable in time. They need to move EP, Hughes and everyone else.

I think 3 on 3 is extremely entertaining just the way it is.

I think the 3 on 3 should be 10 mins, then if no goal, it goes to shootout.

Imagine the meltdown

Bratt's salary range should be somewhere between 7.75m (Fiala) and 8.50m (Hintz). Kyrou signed for $8.125m. Part of me wishes Bratt would signed 8 year for $63m just so it lines up with his jersey number

Bratt to me holds the cards here. He's more valuable to us than we are to him. If he wants 8.5-9 and won't go lower then just give it to him. At worst it's a slight overpay (that will still age well and look good) for an elite player that you're f***ed without. He's a good enough player that you cave to if needed

I'd bring back ties, obviously, since I'm old school. But since that's apparently a no-go for Americans, broadly, I'd at least focus on minimizing how often they happen.

Absolutely go to 10 minutes of 3v3, and if there are any other rule tweaks that can be implemented to increase decisions prior to the skill contest, let 'em rip. I don't think anyone actually enjoys the shootout, it's just a "i hate ties and this is at least a way to prevent that" (or at least I hope so, if you LIKE the shootout please consider seeing a professional).

I think I would legitimately prefer going to 2v2 and then 1v1 after the end of the 3v3 than go to the shootout. Anything that is even slightly more hockey-like is better.

Simultaneous 1v1s go on in each zone. First to score wins. Imagine the drama when both goals happen at the same time lol

He’s one more.

Hughes and Pettersson and some decent players but nothing great after those two.

The Devils only great player was Schneider.
