Is it just me or does this it feel like this year is completely wide open for Stanley Cup contention? I don't think Colorado is nearly as powerful as last year since they haven't really found an adequate replacement for losing Kadri and a few other depth pieces. Ditto for Tampa Bay who haven't replaced that magical third line they lost two years ago. Carolina hasn't proven they have enough offensive firepower to go deep in the playoffs. Toronto is Toronto. I don't think Winnipeg is a legit contender, same for Minnesota. Vegas is good but not head and shoulders above any other current top team. Pitt, Wash, NYR, Islanders, LAK, Seattle, Edmonton, Calgary...I don't consider any of those squads as legit to go on a deep playoff run.
Boston are obvious legit contenders, but are they as far ahead of everyone else as their record indicates? I'm not so sure.
If ever there was a season for a young team to make a magical opportunistic playoff run, it's this one. I really hope the Devils will be there for the chance.
Edit: I totally forgot about Dallas. I think they are legit. I could see them making a run.
