This Shit is no joke. I use to weigh 250-270 as a kid and teenager. Was bullied in school for a decade straight. It’s starts with “small” jokes like that. Then it morphed into people telling me to go kill myself. I tried doing just that one night when I hit a breaking point. Thankfully I failed.

16 years later I weigh 185 and the healthiest and happiest I’ve been. f*** YOU Jack Edwards. You will get yours one day. Scumbag announcer for a scumbag organization.
**** insecure bullies dude. Glad you’re ok (an understatement). More kids and people alike need to stand behind the bullied and ones that feel alone.

Ugh. As a dad this sort of stuff breaks my heart. I'm glad you were able to persevere. I hope you participated in appropriate therapy to overcome your negative ideation and the associated problems. Just heartbreaking. Kids can be just awful to each other.

Edwards said something like Maroon came into camp at 238 and he’s had a few pizza pies since then.

Damn, I missed our Thursday’s game against the Pred while waiting for Edwards to finally manage to expel ~20 words in row out of his mouth (followed by his trademark smirky cackle).

Professional broadcaster everyone, with realistic human-like hair on his head.

I just went back and watched it again. Dude sounded like someone got away with killing a close friend or family member of his. It was such a whiny piece and it was literally even longer than 2 minutes. It was probably at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds or more. It cuts off a 2 minutes and 20 seconds. He took some pauses early on, not to call the game, but dramatically pauses to collect his thoughts.

He calls Dougie Hamilton a ''Lesser player'' than John McKenzie and said there's hardcore McKenzie fans that are so mad that he's wearing that number. He also implies that nobody on the Canes should be wearing that number, while also acknowledging that others before Dougie had worn it between its retirement by the Whalers and then.

And then he starts going into how they didn't un-retire Ron Francis's number or Glen Wesley's number or Gordie Howe's number. He was still going on and the video cuts out cause that's all the person had recorded of it.

There's an all too obvious reason why Francis and Wesley's numbers were not ''Un-retired''. Both guys actually were still active when the Whalers moved to North Carolina and became the Hurricanes. They both played for the Hurricanes. There numbers were not retired by the Whalers, they were retired by the Hurricanes. Both just so happened to play for the organization before it was relocated from Hartford.

And Gordie Howe is constantly cited as a top-10 or even top-5 player all time. I'm not trying to take a shot at McKenzie because it's not necessary, but I think it's fair to say he's ''Lesser'' than Gordie Howe.

Nothing quite like Jack Edwards is sanctimonious lecture to no one in particular/ angry screed mode.

That's not the answer either in my view. First you start with a normal conversation to feel out another parent. Generally parents don't want their kids to be asshats. I find that approach works better than suggesting a kid is a bully. Few parents want a jackass for a child even if they will look the other way when their kid goes overboard making fun of another kid. What also worked for me was teaching my kids to not value their peers opinions too much. I've had numerous instances where my boys' friends have told tall tales and made up flat out lies and I've always pointed that out to my kids. Basically I've reinforced over and over that their friends are largely full of crap and in that case what can they expect from other kids. Once that light goes off they do much better with their peers.

If I was close by I'd offer a dad hug if you don't have one available.

Aside from the dig at Hamilton at the end, is Edwards wrong here?

Say NJ was to move and on retro night 30 years from now Quebec City was to wear the 1995 Dev's jersey and some guy rolled out in #4. Would folks here not be upset by that?

I think Petersen is probably getting bought out, provided he doesn’t do well in the AHL and gets back to the NHL before season’s end and does well.

I was still thinking about his game last night on my walk around lunchtime and it hit me that they’ll probably buy him out.

I never expected him waived just yet though.

I could see them re-signing Quick for one more year, but I could just as easily see him either retiring or signing on somewhere else.

Quick is pretty washed though. I wouldn’t want him if I were almost any team in the league. He’s had one good year in the last 5 and his style of play is no longer effective at his current age.

He spends much of the games on his ass swimming around and breakdancing in the crease.

He doesn’t look like he’s that bad, but Ondrej Pavalec didn’t either. I can guarantee that there’s probably a pretty good amount of goals scored on him that don’t look stoppable but really are, due to the way he plays.
They are a ways off from that.

Waiving him just allows them to send him to the AHL in hopes of finding his sea legs.

If someone claimed him then great for the Kings, but this is merely about sending him back to the minors and hoping he can find his game.

I'd probably stop watching hockey if the Devils moved so I can't really say. I can't even imagine who I'd consider rooting for in the event of what is likely a highly improbable situation.

Jack Edward's is, has been, and always will be a pos so I'm not surprised by any of this.

A good friend of mine is a die hard b's fan and exclusively watches the away feeds because of those two.

If he plays well in the AHL I think he’ll probably get recalled this year. They might give him one more chance next year, but if he doesn’t get better down there then I think he’s a goner.

He gets paid way too much to get claimed and has two years left.

Buyout is a little over $1 million for 4 years.

It’s the typical Edwards pomposity and blather that are the problem. (He also makes random, terrible side arguments/analogies etc too. Par for the course with him.)

A non-asshole, say Chico, would have taken a different angle, focusing almost completely on celebrating John Mackenzie in a positive way and then maybe voicing some regret on the choice Carolina made by using the jersey number.

Chico wouldn’t act like they murdered his MacKenzie’s family and then snidely suggest that the Devils were a vastly classier, morally superior organization.

Finally Chico would also not randomly denigrate the current player wearing the jersey number. I assume, above all, we can all agree that Chico wouldn’t do that. Because Chico wears his big sweet heart on his sleeve and John Edwards is smug little prick.

so Vezina finalists if the season ended today?

Probably Ullmark, Sorokin, and Vanecek right?

I guess last night to Georgiev out of your top 3? His SV% went from .933 to .926 after the Jets 5 goals on 23 shot drubbing.

This day last season Jack Campbell was 12-4-1 with a SV% of .946 and 3 SO in 18 GP.

Life comes at you fast when you’re a NHL goalie.

Edit: Campbell was 19-5-5 with SV% .896 and 2 SO in 31 GP in the rest of the season.

Former Devil great Aaron Dell starting an NHL game tonight. When Carolina moved on from Alex Nedeljkovic, I was curious to see whether his career path might be Dell-ish. Both were smaller NHL goalies with decent AHL track records.

Aaron Dell:
First two NHL seasons: 49 GP, 26-11-5, 2.37 GAA, .920 sv% (whispers that some teams thought he could be a starter)
Next two NHL seasons: 58 GP, 22-23-7, 3.08 GAA, .908 sv%

Alex Nedeljkovic:
First NHL season: 23 GP, 15-5-3, 1.90 GAA, .932 sv%
Next NHL season: 59 GP, 20-24-9, 3.31 GAA, .901 sv%

Looks like the $5 million dollar nobody man has been waived by the Kings today.
When I saw the news I was laughing my ass off. I would have never expected him to be waived this soon. After a rough OT loss for the Kings it almost seems like an emotional reactionary move. However, with the way Petersen has been playing he was gonna get waived eventually so it's pretty much a moot point. It's just funny that it happened 12 hours after a tough loss.

Not sure just how good he is but Detroit was horrific defensively last season and it almost felt like they finally broke Ned at some point.

Some people talk on this board like we were 1975-76 KC Scouts last season but Detroit’s defense was even more porous and significantly more goalie-abusive last season than ours.

Save % becomes a team stat when you go from:

Carolina actually performs better than this looks defensively 5v5 too.

This doesn’t really capture the nightmarish of Detroit 5v5 defensively and it got worse as the year went on.

Ned actually started off great, straight out stole games for the Wings. This can give a sense how f***ing ugly it got at the end, not much any goalie can do there.

Detroit looks improved, I guess. I don’t really have a take on that team this year. Ned however is definitely having a much rougher time for some reason.

I don't really know Edwards enough to try and defend him, but guys on this board get pretty brutal regarding or own players, so I wouldn't be shocked if posters are just piling on here as well.

It's his opinion to say it shouldn't happen, you can't really say an opinion is wrong. In my opinion though, you should probably stop whining about loosely related stuff while you are suppose to be announcing a hockey game.

And if 30 years from now the Devils were in Quebec city, folks here would have more than enough stuff to be upset about, like not having a team anymore and the bearings on their wheel chairs going dry.

Is it whining though? I think he has a valid point regarding the retired jersey and I think it's fine he called it out.

The dig at Hamilton was uncalled for though.

In my opinion it doesn't matter, if he joined a team with a retired number and put it in his contract he wanted that number and strong armed the team into bringing it out of retirement, absolutely. But he didn't. He joined a team, his number was fine and then one night they said, here now wear this colored jersey with a different logo, and he said, "alright."

If he knew and took the time to go to someone and say "hey listen, out of respect for...." and got a different jersey number just for that night, it would have been a cool thing. But I'm not bothered in the slightest that a hockey player got thrown yet another different style jersey and was told that's what they were wearing that night, threw it on and didn't give it another though.
