Good for Zacha. I was in Prague and in a restaurant and the waiter asked where we were from. We told him, and it came quickly to the fact that we are Devils fans and we have Pavel Zacha, etc. The waiter told us how his dad was an ambitious player who didn't get where he wanted, pushed Pavel, etc. Pavel has not had it easy. I'm glad to see him taking advantage of new scenery. Sometimes that's all it takes!

Has anyone done a deep dive into the Bahston yet? What’s the data looking like for that AARP gang?

Eggheads, swarm, swarm!
@Guttersniped @Blender @Zajacs Bowl Cut @Devs3cups @Hisch13r

Please and thank you of course.
Their goaltenders are playing very well right now, they’re at 10 GSAx right now, so goaltending is definitely over performing. Not sure it’s sustainable.

They’ve also scored like 10 goals above expected. So offense is hot, but probably not sustainable either.

The defender knocked the net off but the puck would have gone in regardless so good goal.

NHL rule 63.7:
Awarded Goal - In the event that the goal post is displaced, either
deliberately or accidentally, by a defending player, prior to the puck
crossing the goal line between the normal position of the goalposts,
the Referee may award a goal.
In order to award a goal in this situation, the goal post must have
been displaced by the actions of a defending player, the attacking
player must have an imminent scoring opportunity prior to the goal
post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would
have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts.
If the goal post is deliberately displaced by a goalkeeper during the
course of a “breakaway,” a goal will be awarded to the non-offending
team.

Reminded me of a game I reffed in my beer league 10+ years ago. There was one guy who was probably drunk or at least highly impaired. He turned it over behind his net and then tried to push the net off before the opponent could shoot. Opposing player beat the goalie five hole. Drunk guy went ballistic when we counted the goal.

The possibly more amusing thing was him the next day emailing all the refs his account of what happened.

Now that I think of it, I have a repressed memory of his girlfriend harassing us after a different game too. Crazy attracts crazy I guess.

yeah boston is good but their underlying numbers suggest they are more "top 5 team" than "best team in the league.

Thank you. The sustainability part compared to the Devs is what I was curious about.

Just to be even more precise (I looked at the stats on MoneyPuck this morning), we’re at 73.91 xGF (we have 73 GF) and 44.31 xGA (we have 44 GA). So we’re scoring and getting scored on exactly as we should, which shows sustainability.
Alright, alright, you get the big bar and maybe the matcha flavor but that’s it!

Wouldn’t you have to subdivide the xGA to adjust for the Blackwood/Vanacek split? My guess is that Vanacek is over performing a bit but that is hidden behind Blackwood underperforming a bit.

I didn’t mention it but Vanecek is basically right on his xGA as well! 23.71 xGA, 23 GA.

Schmid: 5.65 xGA, 3 GA (small sample size, obviously, but he’s looked good and steady)

Mac: 14.05 xGA, 17 GA

So basically, Vitek is performing as he should (encouraging!), Akira is over performing (small sample size) and Mac is under performing.

Is Vanacek the league average goaltneindg they were looking for last season being someone who saves the expected goals but doesn’t overperform?

He was a negative in GSAx the two years in Washington. Just a -2.76 last year and a -7.58 the first year. Which is weird cause he was league average save percentage that year. I guess Washington had a more goalie friendly system than most teams.

Here's the real kicker though. For as much as some people were really enamored with Blackwood, he wasn't a positive in GSAx in his first two years in the NHL where he was good. He was still a minus even in those years, although just barely. Roughly a -0.5 goals each season.

At least that's what evolving hockey has him at.

I'm looking at money puck and they have him as a positive for 19-20, but not in 18-19.

play should be blown dead once the net is dislodged imo
