I was caught off guard years back when Sabres fans were booing Will Butcher. When he was a free agent out of DU, he visited the Sabres. Local Denver reporter was stalking Butcher and snapped a photo of him carrying a Sabres bag. Buffalo fans got excited and assumed it meant he was signing with them. Rather than he was just carrying a gift bag that they gave him.

So when we played at Buffalo that season, they booed Butcher. How dare he take a gift and not sign?

And there it is. Agents - the bottom feeding leeches of hockey.

Sure. Teenagers and young adults would be much better negotiating with number crunchers and hired lawyers.

Worked wonders for musicians and entertainers in the 1950's and 1960's.

And protect their clients from being exploited.

There was a Canadian movie a few years ago about Ted Lindsay and the NHL prior to the player's union and player reps.

Clubs made millions. Players not so much.
As an attorney I want agents to help their clients. I try to do that as well. That’s not the issue. Go look into what some of the agents do to get and keep clients. That’s the part I object to.

Jakob Chychrun expected back next week, those sweepstakes will be interesting to watch from afar. From last month:

“Look, the Arizona Coyotes want to trade Jacob Chychrun. Jacob Chychrun has also asked for a trade. The price for the defenceman remains high,” Marek said Saturday during Hockey Night in Canada’s 32 Thoughts segment. “It's essentially the equivalent of two first-round draft picks, plus. So, that would be a combination of prospects, picks and players as well.”

LA, Ottawa, and Toronto seem to be the most frequently mentioned suitors. LA makes the most sense off hand since they have a surplus of prospects especially at RD. Ottawa might be a little skittish to dangle their 1st after their bad start. Toronto has Phoenix native Matthew Knies who they resisted trading for a rental last year but maybe they'd consider it for Chychrun.

LA
F: Alex Turcotte, Rasmus Kupari, Samuel Fagemo
D: Jordan Spence, Helge Grans

OTT:
F: Ridly Greig, Tyler Boucher, Roby Jarventie, Zach Ostapchuk
D: Lassi Thomson, Tyler Kleven

TOR:
F: Matthew Knies, LW Nick Robertson, C Alex Steeves
D: Topi Niemela

New Jersey(No Fanz!)

What is not mentioned (of course) are changes to the absurd Offsides-Challenge rule.

Really makes me wish I was one of those with a voice...at that meeting so I can get up and say "How about we stop letting coaches abuse a rule that purposely takes a well-earned goal away from an opposing team by cancelling Offsides if the opposing team gets full possession in their own zone?"

Ottawa needs more of a right handed dmen, but I still don't get why Dorion didn't go all in on Chycurun after the moves he made on the defense.

Anaheim has played ~20% of their schedule so far.

They have zero regulation wins.

Thats gotta be some sort of record

In contrast, Columbus has 3 regulations wins already. (Yes, I’m posting this because the Rangers lost to them 5-1. Still unsure how that could have happened.)

IMO if we don’t stop cherry picking situations where we don’t think the rule should apply - “the defending team had possession!” “The goal happened long after the zone entry!” “The player was a millimeter offside!” “The other team took too long to challenge!” - because that’s the specific situation that made us mad this week, we will never get rid of the rule.

It’s f***ing awful every time it’s used. Full throated disgust every time it erases a gorgeous goal like Zegras’s or just a merely nice like Tatar’s. It’s the only way we’ll ever get rid of it.

That just means we are primed to pluck Gibson.

(kidding - and admittedly i was kicking the tires on him last year)
Go into your kitchen

Take out two pieces of bread (assuming you have bread)

Put them in the toaster

Turn that f***er up as high as it can go

Just make sure you don't start a fire or anything, I'm not telling you to do that

And then when the two pieces of bread pop up, take a good look at those black, charred, crunchy, messy things. Take in the aroma that is now permeating your kitchen and entire first floor (or your entire apartment if you live in one or basically the whole house if you only have one story like I do) and just take in that moment.

That is John Gibson. Burnt toast. Not just burnt toast, but WELL DONE toast.

Honestly, John Gibson is a very good Cory Schneider comparable.

Although, I would argue Schneider was BETTER than Gibson before his decline. The only thing Gibson had on Schneider was that he broke into the league earlier than Schneider did. He didn't have Roberto Luongo in front of him, so it was easier for him to get into more games at a younger age. Also, he didn't play in the AHL for the better part of 3 years like Schneider did. He turned pro when he was about a year younger than Schneider was when he turned pro and Schneider played the majority of 3 seasons in the AHL before making the NHL full time. Gibson only played one full season in the AHL. He played a little more than 10 games in each of the two seasons after that, but he had already played a lot more NHL games by age 24 than Schneider had.

And just like Schneider, he declined way too prematurely after looking like the next incredibly dominant American born goalie. He was still REALLY young when he had his first bad season and he hasn't had a good one since.

He's merely a cap dump at this point. That contract is gonna either end with him being bought out or on the LTIR. Probably bought out. I think he'll be about 34 when it ends? Or about to turn 34 when it ends.

This post almost starts out like a Rock promo, which ends with the Rock saying to shine up (or butter up) those pieces of toast real nice, turn it sideways and stick it up your candy ass!

That was really not my intention, but when reading it again it kind of seems like that. But then it goes somewhere else.
