I think a few teams would sign him for $1.5 million like Samsonov if we didn’t qualify him, but $3 million is too much for him if he has another poor year and/or can’t stay healthy for much of the year. I can’t see any team wanting to give him that. That’s too much for a goalie that hasn’t performed.
I mostly agree with you but the complete dearth of good goaltending in the league has lead to plenty of crazy moves. The Avalanche immediately gave Georgiev a 3 year extension at $3.4M AAV after back to back below average seasons. The Maple Leafs willingly traded for Matt Murray due to being so desperate in net. I wouldn't be surprised if a team was willing to take a chance on him as a cheap reclamation project.

I'm not sure how to interpret this. "Negative intangibles" are usually things tacked on to talented players, a downside. "Positive intangibles" are usually something cited as a reason to draft a less-skilled but hardworking (or big) player. I'd want to see positive intangibles and their effect among, say, first round picks, vs. negative intangibles among that comparable peer group.
Yes, I completely agree. This isn’t only in sports, if you have to compliment someone’s work and the quality is lacking, then the go to compliment is effort level.

This gets muddier because he throws in words like “mature”, “leadership”, “team player” and “great attitude”. I mean, those are nice but are teams overdrafting those guys because scouts say those things?

And poor intangible words will more likely be associated with skilled players. They got drafted despite that for a reason.

Laine doing his Super Villain shit again and it’s wild (he’s also 24 going on 36).

I rate it a -35. The two tone on the bias thing looks insane, like there was a mixup at a textile factory in Vietnam and they just went with it anyway.

And you're right, he totally looks like discount Lex Luthor.

Unmasked: Ski boot-style skates changing way NHL goalies play position

Always find new technology, even if basic, interesting.

Even without wearing them the strap/hinge system just visually appear to make sense for goalies to wear.

This makes so much sense.

Tried to play goal in my playing days. Hated putting pads over laced boots. This looks comfy.

They drafted 2 D's in top 15 this year and it looks like they will have another high pick next season, they will be good soon.
They were good a few years ago. Never thought they were a contender or anything serious, but a lot of those that are good are getting older now. Laine and Werenski are still 24-25.

And while Merzlikins hasn't been a bad goalie at the NHL level, they overpaid for him. It was a little too soon to give him that much.

At the same time they really weren't good enough to contend when they had still Panarin and Bobrovsky anyway. I'm pretty sure that sweep over Tampa is the only playoff series the franchise has ever won.

They beat Toronto in the bubble too (qualy round). Pittsburgh and Toronto fans are saying that losing at that stage counts as making the playoffs, so....
