No!

Look at VGK getting inside position? Leafs were playing perimeter soft ass hockey that only pleases the expected bullshit per 60 trash

Florida’s D is in position 10% of the time, you don’t need to be tough to get inside position on them it’s always available lol. Most of our goals on Vasi were redirected point shots, you know from the perimeter. How many of those did we get on Bob? Is Montour harder to fight for position against than Hedman? We stopped taking point shots and kept getting stuffed in the crease by Bob, most of our offense came from the slot because it was available off the turnovers they kept feeding us.

Can say what we will about FLA (a team that just made the playoffs and ultimately ended up in the SCF), but Vegas is truly just that good.

Disagree.

Florida got outplayed for 2 series straight. Bobrovsky had the games of his career.

Then,

Vegas got lucky with Dallas winning 2 games while Florida swept resulting with 9 days off between games for a hot Bobrovsky.

After that, Bobrovsky returned to earth and lost his timing. Series over. Florida loses every series they won this year if Bob played like this any other round.

A team built the complete opposite of dubas’ leafs is about to win the cup!!!

People still sad he left?
As the playoffs progressed, and seeing the speed and intensity, it makes one realize just how far the Leafs have to go. Hopefully Treliving changes the dynamic of the team to achieve that next step required.

Pretty much sums up why Keefe needs to go.

Leafs just seem to play a different kind of game than Vegas, or most teams for that matter. They seem to control the puck and force other teams to change their playing style; often winning close, cautious games. It’s frustrating but also really effective in the regular season. Waiting to see it breakthrough in the post season.

Whats hilarious to me is Bruce Cassidy makes the SCF for the 2nd time with a team with Black and Gold and is about to win the cup after getting fired by the "other" black and gold team; I wonder if DeBrusk is still happy though

pos like bennet and gudas not getting any is just another satisfying thing for me tonight. Would be great if they both hit each other and fall down for another goal against though

I can respect that if you’re given all that room in their D zone and you don’t do the obvious thing and take it, he’d get crucified by media and fans anyway. By game 3 you need to at least try it because you’re not scoring on the guy without creating moving traffic in front of him.

It all starts with an organizational commitment to building a conventionally good hockey team with many ingredients to win different play styles. Not reinventing anything. Not reinventing a wheel you don’t understand. Just doing the conventional thing really well and being aggressive in getting better all the time.
If the Leaf had hired Cassidy they still wouldn’t be in the finals with that team.
But maybe Cassidy could have convinced them the D was slow and terrible and that bringing in Murray was a waste of time.

And for all of the talk about "being on the inside", half of the goals Vegas has scored on Bobrovsky have been from the perimeter (and even some of the ones from the slot were clean looks from the slot; not garbage goals like we tried to score).

Vegas is doing something that we did not do, which was actually shoot on Bobrovsky above his pads. We just kept trying to either jam or pass pucks into the net even though there was a clear weakness on Bobrovsky up high.

If we played more of a perimeter game, we probably win that series. Either that or actually being able to convert on some more of those cross-ice passes that should be tap-ins...

I am all-for going for cheap goals in front of the net, especially when Florida is giving it up at will, but at some point we have to use our skill-advantage as well.

Florida was collapsing well against the Leafs because Leafs play soft hockey; Leafs didn't want to take the beating go into the dirty areas in front of the net to create traffic and make it harder for bob to see the puck.

Sheldon Keefe was outcoached against the bolts too. Leafs were lucky to win that series. Treliving basically implied that in his musings i forget whether it was on TSN with overdrive guys or with Kypper on sportsnet radio

Perhaps they need a new direction and voice for a style that also translates better in the playoffs.

Yeah the most glaring difference is watching Eichel hit Marchessault from below the goal line to the top of the circle for a snipe, we had almost none of that despite having the passing lanes available. The amount of whiffed shots on those set ups would have been enough to win a short series if we converted on even half of them.

I'd be mad that we let him go but I dont even remember him being on our team lol

Lol I know eh. He wasn't much of anything. Gets scooped up by Vegas in a depth role and now has 5 goals and 10 points in 16 playoff games.

Just wild stories of random players getting hot at the right time. Every cup winner has them.

Teams will always try to wrap up a playoff series in as quickly a manner as possible. Florida (including Bobrovsky) arguably had yet to play a team of VGK's quality. Even winning 2 games out of 15/16 based on "luck" still ends up accounting for such a small percentage once all is said and done. While I definitely respect your opinion, overall we'll have to just agree to disagree here.

Also Adin Hill is about to be the goalie of a cup winning team .. that's wild
I think a lot of goalies in this league could have been in net for this Vegas team and still won. Like if you took Samsonov and threw him on Vegas it's probably the same result.

I love that Kessel is going to get another cup ring too .. many though he was just coasting into the sunset in Arizona, but he goes to Vegas and gets another

Hopefully we get one of these guys next year

And damn 10 pts in 16 games is only a bit worse than Tavares and better basically any support forward weve had since 2019-2020 outside of RoR

Vegas team had a bunch of depth scoring
Top scorer "only" had 24 pts

But so many guys contributed. Think we will need to go that route as I dont think any of the big 4 can have a dominant smythe worthy cup run (30 pt player off run)

That brand of hockey will never work in post season because the other team has a response. If I'm an opposition coach:

1) Pack the slot where the Leafs don't want to go, force the Leafs into perimeter cycle and bad body positioning when they do get in the slot.

2) Rush their defensemen with speed when they start their puck reversal/escape game. Take away their time and space to make the extra possession play.

3) Dictate tempo. Leafs play most of their game at a mid tempo pace requiring a lot of puck touches and east west movement. Force them to speed up and make mistakes, or clog it up so they have nowhere to go.

4) 3) Beat their stars up with impunity because what are they even going to do about it?
