Yeah the most glaring difference is watching Eichel hit Marchessault from below the goal line to the top of the circle for a snipe, we had almost none of that despite having the passing lanes available. The amount of whiffed shots on those set ups would have been enough to win a short series if we converted on even half of them.

They forced way too much inside. I like that we are a good forechecking team and we can grind out goals in front of the net, but if the goalie is not giving those goals up and you are clearly seeing that he is giving up goals up high, then maybe try to aim for the thing that is working?

We are easily a team that should be able to beat in a variety of ways... But seems like the players are not capable of doing that nearly enough.

Incredibly frustrating. Game 1 could have easily been a win and Game 3 was an OT loss. How easily this could have been a different Final.

I take a different view. Leafs were several bad calls, bad bounces and good efforts away from getting past Florida. To win that series they had to overcome the Panthers, bad officiating and themselves. Can't beat 3 opponents in one round.

Would have been interesting to see what would have happened had the refs called that holding the stick on Gudas.. if the Leafs win it on the PP and take it to 6 games

The hinge moment for me would have been Marner skating half speed to the blueline and then lobbing it over to Matthews who chipped it up and it was knocked down by Florida. If that was a normal zone out and the Leafs managed to not fall behind, the series would have settled down a different way.

Honestly it’s like they play to prove Berger and the rest of the media wrong more than they play to max their chances of winning.

“They’re too soft”
They start running around getting suspended

“The defense can’t defend”
They play offense scared and start losing 2-1 goalie duels instead

“They can’t score playoff goals”
Most of the offense is now designed around one of Tavares and Matthews deflecting shots and digging for pucks in front of the net.

You can’t have a coherent identity if your identity is proving someone wrong or being the opposite of something, they need to pick positive values and ideals and commit to them regardless of what outside pressure is telling them to do.
