You watch this cup final or even the Memorial cup final and there's a directness of play that we just don't play with.

Fast north-south, physical, drive to the front of the net, no shortcuts style of play by Vegas . No constant turning back with the puck to guarantee control of possession.

So much talk has been about how management messed up our cap allocation but I'd say a bigger problem was the system playstyle that was implemented was always somewhat flawed. Just nowhere near the necessary amount of aggression level or physicality that you constantly see from the team that ends up winning the cup.

Our biggest flaw right now as a team is in transition. That is both defending in transition and attacking in transition. We are one of the best teams in the league at generating offense once we have established possession inside the other teams zone. It is somewhat ironic as the teams that first made the playoffs with this core were the exact opposite. Elite in transition and got killed in the cycle. Great teams can do both though and there is all of this talk about physicality and what not and while yes that is important....we need to become a much much faster hockey team again. Vegas got doubled up in hits last night but nobody gives a f*** because they absolutely murdered Florida in transition. Meanwhile Florida killed us in transition they just soaked up the pressure collapsed on the net waited on a mistake and made us pay for them time after time.

They’re also mostly healthy in the positional player department, despite Florida’s best efforts.
True, but it’s not just that. I saw them live the first time the Leafs played out there and they were unbelievably fast back then. Under DeBoer they seemed to lose that part of their game, but they got it back now.

So basically the goal is to build the most versatile team that can play multiple different ways depending on the flow of the game.

Also continually circling back , not taking a lane to the net when you have a step on a defender or too much east-west dangling slows down the speed of your game.

I'd say we're closer to one dimensional than versatile.

It's always funny seeing people try and convince themselves and others that the hockey we're watching now is somehow different or a step beyond us, when we did all of the things they're praising Vegas for. The difference is that Florida sat for 10 days and got sloppy, Bobrovsky lost all of his momentum and isn't carrying them anymore, and Florida is getting called for everything they got away with in previous rounds.

A florida fan showing a vegas player holding onto a Florida's player stick that leads directly to a goal, I can't 🤣

Just dripping with irony, do they not realize this lmao.
Gary clearly wanted Florida to advance from the East but he wants Vegas to win the SC. Refereeing will be slanted in Vegas' favour. Gary gets what Gary wants. Gary is the worst thing to happen to the game of hockey. It now takes expansion teams one to two years to be better than most established teams. Gone are the days of the expansion Washington Capitals. Gary will sell his soul to get rich owners to buy in. Well done asshole.

Bettman got what he wanted .
Now he is giving Vegas everything they need to win .
Florida how does it feel.

Do I think Gary is an asshole? Yes. Do I think he directs officiating to call games in favour of certain teams? No, I don’t. if he really wanted to Vegas, they would have won by now. They would have won in 2018 instead of losing in 5. He represents all the owners. I don’t think he can favour certain teams over others.

In order to have a “fix”, every single person in the NHL, from the PA, all officials, reporters, front office clerks, managers would need to be in on it because someone would find out and expose it like Watergate. People live to expose stuff.

I would not put anything past Gary. Sometimes you need more than favorable officiating to beat the much better team. For example, the Leafs, even with favorable officiating will not beat these Golden Knights unless Gary takes a page out of the WWE handbook and scripts the games.

The hit Tkachuk put on Eichel last night is probably what the 3 amigos were afraid might happen to them and why they disappeared for most of the series against Florida. I thought Jack might have sustained some major damage watching him skate off the ice. Glad to see him return. Sorry we did not trade Marner for him. LOL.

If Toronto had traded Marner for Tkachuk we still might be playing right now.

Man was that a hit. Also shows Eichel's toughness to return from it and excel thereafter.. A lot of players wouldn't have come back in this game.

Ya, that trade proposal (I was one) was admonished by many here. I always felt AM and Eichel on a line would be dynamite.
Imagine if AM had Eichel's skating......he would be McDavid 2.0.

You don't need to have a widespread conspiracy that runs through every person in the sport to have officiating skew and impact games improperly.
But also, it's weird that people forget how much league bias and intentional improper/inconsistent application of the rules has been exposed - through leaked emails, through hot mics, through pretty obvious data, through refs talking about it post-career, etc. In fact, a large part of fixing games is public and so widely accepted by fans that they don't even try to hide it - game management. We just give it a flashy term to hide from acknowledging the realities of the league that has monopolized hockey in North America.

No kidding. I dont see any difference between how toronto dominated florida in games 1-2 vs how vegas is dominating florida in games 1-2. The only difference is goalie variance and differences in penalties being called. More than 1 out of every 2 years we see a cinderalla type team (from the bottom 8 seeds) make a run to the stanley cup finals, mostly based on riding a hot goalie. These runs usually fail as luck starts to run out as the sample size increases. People like to mock toronto for getting goalied but fail to see plenty of other teams getting goalied along these cinderalla runs.

So now you see the regular season Bobrovsky that was an albatross.

The reffing sure - Vegas is getting the good end of the officiating so far.

The play? No f***ing chance. Vegas is forechecking like demons, crashing the crease and making Bob nervous every shift. We play NOTHING like them. You honest to god think that perimeter garbage we played is comparable to what Vegas is doing?

That was a great hit. Kudos to Eichel to get right back and walked to dress room.
Eichel is not liked around here because of his outspoken nature, but he's a heck of a player. More complete than people give him credit for

Vegas from the get go was built for playoffs. This team still has McPhee written all over it.
Soft players like Patch, they got rid of him
Dadonov, gone
Neal, Perron, gone

After McPhee is gone, McCrimmon makes the following trades
Makes bold trades by getting Patch. Didn't work out, then gets Eichel
Fires 2 coaches. Get's Cassidy

Fortune favors the bold. We have no made bold moves, we have no tried anything different

Keefe still coming back. In Vegas, he would have been fired after losing to the Zamboni driver
One of the core 4 now would have been traded

Vegas doesn't care about coming off as a feel good team. They are in the business of winning
