Yeah and look at the 2nd deals those players gave their clubs, all basically 8 year terms.

Theres zero chance Matthews and Mitch sign for 8 years.
They are more likely to sign for 8 years now. Caps gonna raise by a lot for their next deals and their agents probably knew with Vegas being as huge as it is and the rumours of Seattle being the next expansion team that the cap would raise by a lot, so that's why they wanted only 5 or 6 year deals so they could sign for even more money and for 8 years because I doubt the cap raises a huge amount after this upcoming cap increase. Probably thought it'd go up sooner but obviously covid screwed that so now it'll raise at the perfect time for them.

Just seems like a funny double standard how the Fenway Group churned and burned through Rutherford and then Burke, Hextall, put handcuffs on each regime to continue pushing to win with Crosby and Malkin, basically giving a no rebuild order, and yet this is somehow a unique opportunity with a progressive ownership group.

Burke and Hextall were already there when Fenway bought the Penguins. All they've done is clean house once and hire Dubas

I'd say it's a unique opportunity because most ownership groups don't have a history of supporting data driven management teams across different sports. The Red Sox and Liverpool already won titles under FSG with a heavy emphasis on analytics.

I like Caufield, but the cringe levels are off the charts for Habs fans calling him a "40 goal scorer" over his "last 82 games". The SAME posters who refused to look at Matthews the same way years ago. This place never stops being a funny read.

Vegas is relentless at home... shame we come out so flat in our home games. Like it's a beer league game instead of the damn playoffs.

Florida needs to pick up their game significantly. Otherwise this is gonna be a sweep or 5 game series. This is not competitive right now.

I hate it to say it, but, watching this game right now, I am 100% convinced that we are nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE near cup contenders. The intensity, the hitting, the chippyness etc. This is what you need to do to win.

Can you imagine Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares in a game like this? They would go through an entire box of depends before it’s over.

Is it a gag order by the league to ban commentators from mentioning goals that are deflected, tipped or rise up from a defenseman's stick. It is rarely mentioned to the viewing public. They will say it was an awesome snipe.......only because the goalie was tracking it well but it deflected up into an upper corner. Sorry Pet peeve of mine.
It's one thing Cherry brought to the table that stuck with me.

Look at the way the game is played. Hard on the walls, down low, somebody on top of you, cheap shots, jabs, punches, etc.
Do you really think Matthews/Marner/Nylander/Tavares are cranking through people like that for 4 rounds? If not, why are we wasting time. Honest answer.
I’m not saying Marner with Tkachuk won’t work or Matthews with Pietrangelo and Stone won’t work, but these 4 together? Sum of the parts.

100%

I dont know anyone that could objectively watch last round and these two games and say they can see our guys doing it game in game out

The massive difference between the Leafs and these two teams is painfully obvious. The intensity and physicality is nowhere to be found in the Leafs game. Especially in our so-called leaders.

Leaders set the tone and bring their intensity and compete level up when the games matter most. We will never see that with this core.

It’s so disappointing, because I really believed in these guys for a few years. They gave me so much hope that they would end this miserable drought. Unfortunately they just don’t have what it takes to win in the playoffs.
