I don’t understand why the Blazers didn’t upgrade on Ernst. He gives me Campbell vibes with his inability to track a puck.
Reading Pits forum, they are damn happy they got Dubie. The big fish they call him.
That seems a little optimistic but the Pitt franchise has been in a bit of turmoil since their last championship. I think KD can do a lot of things to straighten that out. FFS the guy wanted to braid the hair of his new acquisitions, he can build a positive culture if that's what they need. The Leaf fans are tired of waiting for a championship, Pens just want to get things back on the track to feel better.Reading Pits forum, they are damn happy they got Dubie. Dubas said in his presser that his main priority in Pitt will be goaltending and defence.
Two areas he has no clue about as he clearly demonstrated clearly in Toronto.
Ehh Dubas did some good things to improve the overall D core and depth. It lacked high impact defense but it had quality. Also the development pipeline was improved.
Definitely better than when he started
Dubas turned one of the worst defensive teams in the league into one of the best. I'd say Samsonov has been a pretty good goalie for us too.Dubas said in his presser that his main priority in Pitt will be goaltending and defence.

He got Muzzin. That was good.
Then this year he got Luke and McCabe.
While he acquired solid d men, I don't think he ever really got a good mix of them together. In the playoffs we were essentially playing with 5 d men that could not carry the puck or move in transition at all. That killed us.

I think for 5M you could have gotten a much better fit for the team than Brodie. Especially since they signed him with the intention of being Rielly's partner - which never worked very well as a pairing.Brodie was a good signing .. Gio was a good addition
Acquiring Timmins was a good move… signed Bogosian
Did he make any mention of re-acquiring Matt Murray again, and having his eye on expansion draft protected Justin Holl a pending UFA, or maybe picking up 40 year old Mark Giordano for a pair of 2nd round picks again?
While in Toronto he went back to his roots in the Soo, so you would have to believe familiarity will bring him back for former Leafs he acquired and coveted here,
I'd be willing to allow Dubas to have most of his former Dmen and Goalies for his new Pen's team (holding mainly just Rielly and Liljegren the ones he inherited).
Pens Defense 2023-24
Kris Letang -------- T J Brodie
Jeff Petry --------- Justin Holl
Mark Giordano -- Erik Gustafsson
Jordie Benn ----- Victor Mete
Jake Muzzin (LTIR)
Goaltending
Matt Murray (won 2 Cups with the Pens)
Casey DeSmith
Erik Källgren
Good Luck Pittsburgh, you're going to need it !!!!
For those 9 players some pending UFAs, if I were Brad Treliving's shoes I'd accept future considerations for the whole lot, because the free cap space and roster spots would have sooooooo much more value to Leafs.
PS. If Dubas was willing to take Murray ugly contract, I'd even let him have Ilya Samsonov (RFA) in the deal. As then I would simply sign ex Pens goalie Tristan Jarry as pending UFA to back up Joseph Woll.

Gio was Dubas bargain bin hunting when he should have went for the big fish since (Lindholm).
Liked the Muzzin trade - he was precisely what the Leafs needed. The other big D acquisitions? Honestly not that good IMO. Mind you getting Schenn this year was a good positive.

It was subtle, but sharp of you to notice I put all our Dubas dmen in Pens colours for dramitic effect.Love the Pitt colours!
Nothing wrong with the final. Just won’t get much viewers. Hence why Bettman will be happy it’s two Southern teams in America. Bettman is a crook.Down here where they play these finals the weather is usually nice in March and April and hot by June.
What’s wrong with the final? They’re two really good teams. Did y’all want Boston again? Rangers? New Jersey?
agreed1 playoff round win with a team whose table was fully set for him by previous management.
Not sure what their expectations are of him for a team that needs to be systematically dismantled and then rebuilt back up with him in charge but I'd be willing to bet it'll be at least 6 years before Dubas can beat even his own playoff record here in Toronto of 5/16 playoff wins...
Not one of those names listed is a top def. in this leagueWhile he acquired solid d men, I don't think he ever really got a good mix of them together. In the playoffs we were essentially playing with 5 d men that could not carry the puck or move in transition at all. That killed us.
The finals only gets viewers from the region the teams are from and it won’t be any different this year. At least TNT is carrying the series and lucky for them they at least have two markets with no Canadian based team. Florida and Edmonton would be a disaster for ratings.Nothing wrong with the final. Waiting a week for this series to start has really sucked any remaining excitement out of the Cup finals. Really bad planning by the NHL.
