Every year.

They should aim to have the playoffs done by the end of May. Weather gets too nice outside to really care when it's not your team.
Down here where they play these finals the weather is usually nice in March and April and hot by June.

Bettman is happy though. This is what the NHL wants.
What’s wrong with the final? They’re two really good teams. Did y’all want Boston again? Rangers? New Jersey?

I don’t think anyone ever really cares if it’s not your team. It is much easier to watch games outside these days in the nice weather. Best of both worlds IMO.

Here's a wild idea to give some franchises instant hope:

any team who wins the draft lottery in any year gets a choice between taking the 1st overall or re-instantiating itself in an expansion draft scenario. With this franchise re-boot, an organization's entire reserve list and contract roster become released to the league. Players on the reserve list still eligible for the entry draft re-enter the draft. RFAs become UFAs. All other players with their existing contracts instantly go on a special kind of weighted waivers where no more than 1 player goes any team weighted by how the teams finished the year previously. Then the teams protect their talent and there's a draft for the "new" team. The lottery winner picks last in the 1st round and first in the other rounds excepting where draft picks have been traded.

The way he (Weekes)records these….

NHL hits a another scheduling homerun.

Game 2 on Monday.
Game 3 on Thursday.

At this point they just want everyone to forget about the NHL playoffs.

NHL Final is back to scheduling around the NBA Finals now that covid delays are pretty much over.
Something must be going on or these leagues just trying to stretch out the season as long as possible. Even the NBA finals schedule sucks. Game 1 Thursday, Game 2 Sunday, Game 3 Wednesday, Game 4 Friday and Game 5 Monday.

Basically, the TV networks get the scheduling they want, and the NBA gets first dibs because it's the bigger property.
