They have a really good first line, but the rest of their forward group is pretty meh...Benn has had a good resurgent season, but close to ~40% of the dude's production has come from the PP, and he's also been shooting well above his usual numbers this year. Seguin is a shell of what he used to be, while Dadonov, Johnston, Domi, Marchment etc are decent but not great middle six tweener types. Johnston obviously has potential to be more than that, but he's just a rookie, how much will he really do in his first ever playoffs?

On defense, Heiskanen is a stud and Suter is basically their version of Mark Giordano, but the rest of the D are just decent and mostly unspectacular players.

Their biggest weapon is probably in net with Oettinger who is a legitimate franchise goalie, and almost stole the Calgary series on his own last year. If he gets hot I suppose he could steal many games, but is that enough to get them a Cup win?

I don't know guys, what am I missing here lol? I don't think this team is all that great, they're a solid playoff team but that's about it. Even in the two games the Leafs played against them, I didn't think they looked particularly impressive, especially in the second game in Dallas where the Leafs made easy work of them. I certainly wouldn't have them as a top 5 team.

Elite first line, depth is OK imo, and elite goalie. I don't like the D that much but it's not terrible.

Would you be surprised if they beat Minnesota? Definitely not. Colorado? Kinda, but no Landeskog is a huge blow. Pacific rep? Probably not.

I think they're probably on par with the other Western contenders. Wouldn't shock me if they made the finals. Put them in the East? Yeah, I see them a tier below

Rumour is that he wanted to fire Sutter in February but ownership wouldn’t let him..

As long as the flames owners refuse to rebuild, they’re in trouble.

Trevling did well given the position he was in to buld a winner every year

I understand Sutter had a great year as a coach last year but I never understood why they re-hired him a few years ago. He always shows his true colours really fast and players seem to tune him out real fast.

But yeah... I never understood the idea of firing a GM but not the coach. To me they go hand in hand a lot of times.
 
Apparently Dorion is not ready to make any 'bold statements', even though after last off season he proclaimed that 'the rebuild is over'. With Talbot and DeBrincat leaving and their goaltending being practically non-existent next year I would fire the guy. Sometimes the best trades are the ones you don't make.

Summer of Despair in hindsight.

I did like a few of his moves tho. I want to dunk on him really hard but I don't hate the work he did.

The DeBrincat move was dicey, though. It just seemed like that capital could have used on D, G or maybe a lower asset on a 3C. Couldn't see the Norris injury coming but even with him, I'd want to insulate Pinto a bit.

I don't think Burke is on their Radar tbh. Would definitely have to be someone else IMO, I wouldn't be surprised if someone from left field, aka unheard of.

Edit: I see you meant it as a joke :laugh:

Going to be interesting if he does leave though.
There will be a lot of conflicted emotions down at the D.D.L.

I don't know, I think Dubas has shown he's adaptable, and if anything it's all on the players at this point. All I want is for the leafs to get the bloody cup, so if it means cutting the GM or Coach, who cares as long as the job is done.

Dubas Defense League

I believe the Leafs will retain Dubas.
I was thinking more if he decides to walk to one of these open positions.
