Their matchup has been locked in for months already, and they'll play 50+ more games merely to determine who might get 1 more home game. Any system that allows that is broken.

teams don't spend there season trying to get certain matchups in the playoffs they play one game at a time and win as many games as they can and if they win enough and get in the playoffs there matchup is who it is and they continue to try and win every game they play until they lose. again just because there are 3 dominate teams in our division doesn't make the system broken. the playoff matchup is really only a fan thing.

An Edmonton/Boston Final wouldn't surprise me at all.

If Edmonton gets to the finals with that goaltending and team defense, then everyone needs to stfu about any theories on team building and what the Leafs need and it needs to be thoroughly accepted that the NHL PO are nothing but a crap shoot and all talk/speculation and analysis is effen noise

What happens in the West has no bearing on the East and the Leafs.

Im guilty of cheering on Boston when they played in the final vs Vancouver. It would sicken me but id cheer for them again if they played Edmonton in the final. The only Canadian team I’d be okay with winning is Calgary as their fans are okay, every other Canadian franchise fan base can pound sand

The idea that teams and players don't care about who they play in the playoffs is pretty silly. But it's not even really about that.
The NHL is selling an idea that the regular season means something. The system is built on the idea that you do better in the regular season, you get a better matchup, and better chances to win, but the arbitrary divisional restrictions completely dismantle that system, which is horrible not just for competitive equality, but just in terms of how to effectively run an entertainment business. Knowing what April will look like in December sucks excitement and suspense out of an entertainment product. A system that allows this is broken.

I find myself envious of the Bruins when I watch them. Wish the Leafs played that way.

GG Chuck Fletcher. Philadelphia Flyers fire GM Chuck Fletcher, Daniel Briere named interim replacement | TSN

Now we have something in common with them. Firing a Fletcher. Though Cliff did do a couple good things. As much as everyone loved Wendel Clark he was done, his knees were shot, and the Clark for Sundin trade is one of the most lopsided in the Leafs favour I can think of
Hypothetically, if Shanahan and Dubas are removed, which long standing Leaf Executive would be put in charge of the GM hunt? :help:

What was the point?
the point is there's a lot of shit luck that goes into PO success and for hockey geniuses here to analyze a team and what they need and what trades they should or should not make, is complete nonsense.

Larry T will hire a President. And the new President start and finish finding a new GM. Presidents can be oblivious to the actual game of hockey as long as they are good at finding the right people.

Right now there isn't time to do both which is why I see an absolute zero chance Shanny will get removed. It would have happened long ago.

That's why Chuck got fired now, more time for the top to find the new GM pre draft

It's just a hobby for some or passes the time while working for others.
Seems odd to care about what entertains others.

Why are you here then?

Didn't he appoint Cliff last time after Burke left? I could be misremembering

I like to tell know-it-alls that they actually know nothing.

It's a hobby of mine, passes the time, entertains me. Why do you care?

I don't remember. I was just joking that if Fletcher was put in charge of the search, his sons name would be at the top of the list.

Yeah but then Fletcher went and traded the future Luongo pick and Kenny Jonsson to bring Clark back...

Yeah that was 100% intentional

Kucherov is probably the 2nd best PP player in the game behind McDavid. He's unreal sitting on the half wall slinging passes

He has the half wall swagger of a peak Kane... and the personality of a really spoilt only child.

Not long standing but Spezza is being groomed. Been in the game a long time, is intelligent and understands how a team needs to be built for success.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit if he had influence on the trades that brought heavy grit on TDL to the team.

As Gm that is not an executive searching.

Paul Maurice did a great job taking Florida out of contention. What a terrible hire, I hope he finds his way to Boston next

A man whose career at this point is based around being a nice guy and having a recognizable name.

It's quite remarkable at how quickly the Panthers have managed to turn a promising team on the upswing into a tire fire
