From the Isles board - looks like we're on the same page with this dude.

Engvall has always been what he is. Plays a decent north south and transition game, but once he finds himself in the offensive zone the guy is completely lost and doesnt know what to do.

He just lacks the IQ, which is tough to teach, but still a decent bottom 6er.

For the record, Seattle is #1 in 5v5 scoring and top 5 overall. Scoring above expected more than any other team in the league.

For the record Edmonton is #5 in 5v5 scoring and #1 in goals per game. McCann leads his team in scoring while Hyman is 4th on his team. Hyman plays on the #1 ranked PP, McCann plays on the 21st best PP.

Hyman’s most common linemates are McDavid and Draisaitl, and they’ve an expected goals percentage of 60.8% and an expected goals for per 60 minutes of 3.97. McCann’s most common linemates are Eberle and Beniers, and they’ve an expected goals percentage of 53.5% and expected goals for per 60 minutes of 2.57.

Don't know if anyone else noticed it, but even if the playoffs were in a 1-8 format today, the matchups would be the exact same in the east

1 Boston
2 Carolina
3 New Jersey
4 Toronto
5 Tampa Bay
6 NY Rangers
7 NY Islanders
8 Pittsburgh

For me the outcome of the Edmonton/Boston game was ideal. Boston lost in regulation and McDavid was pointless.

As the old saying goes (translated from the EPL original) "my two favourite teams are Toronto, and whoever is playing Boston".

I wouldn't mind seeing the Isles in the second wildcard spot, as I think with Sorokin and their structure they are about as likely as anyone to give Boston trouble.

I didn't say that Edmonton wasn't high-scoring or that Hyman wasn't in a very favourable situation... But Seattle is still pretty potent offensively, and scoring teamwide for them is pretty inflated this year. McCann technically moved into the team lead in scoring (literally last game), but that doesn't really say much, especially when he's within 1 point of multiple other players on his team.

Actually, if the Playoffs started today, Toronto would be playing the NYR (0.672 vs. 0.633), and Tampa would be playing NJ (0.703 vs. 0.631).

Honestly, I think I'd rather have Tampa, given the choice... no easy outs, no matter how you organize it.

I'd just rather have a meaningful regular season that gives the team something to play for. How our matchup ends up this year isn't of much concern to me. The broken system is.
Would certainly be nice to have the possibility to play Pittsburgh/NYI/Buffalo/Ottawa though.

Valid point.

I'd just like a meaningful playoff run. Is that too much to ask for?

I asked Bettman and he said it is too much.
He said we're being greedy. Tampa needs their dynasty.
Also, if we win, it will make it harder for Bettman to take lame jabs at his cash cow.
On an unrelated note, Skilliter and McCauley have been assigned to our series.

I don't see how they don't have something to play for just because there's 3 dominate teams in our division and a bunch of weak teams currently doesn't mean the system is broken.

Their matchup has been locked in for months already, and they'll play 50+ more games merely to determine who might get 1 more home game. Any system that allows that is broken.
