Again, Dubas wisely protected a $2 million Dman over $3.5 million Kerfoot and $3 million RFA to be McCann.. Where do you put a $5 million forward right now into the current lineup? RD for $2 million who provide what Holl does will get paid much more. Look at Gudbranson, Manson, etc....they may or may not be an actual upgrade, but the cost for a mid/low RD is more than $2 million - think double that at least.

I love the revisionist history here.

LW McCann and his 100 points (50 in both last season and to date this season) were replaced by LW Bunting and his 106 points (63 points last season and has 43 points so far)........at $950k.

But let's keep those full blown delusions going.
We lack goal scorers in our bottom 6 and that is what McCann does which is pretty obvious why people prefer McCann over Kerfoot. I'd take McCann at 5 mil (even though he was making 2.9 for 1 year) with Bunting at 950K and Liljegren at whatever he makes/made over Kerfoot 3.5 mil, Holl 2 mil and Bunting 950K.

Weird hit by Logan Stanley on Kaprizov tonight. He kind of just fell on him. Ir was dangerous and Kaprizov is hurt and out of the game, but I’m not sure what you call that.

Jets are 10-13-2 over their last 25

Didn't even realize they were in this bad of a free fall
They were a fraud team from the beginning being carried by Hellebuyck's goaltending and opportunistic scoring. I remember calling this out on the main board due to their poor underlying numbers early in the season and let's just say some Jet fans didn't take it well

It was never us picking Kerfoot over McCann. Both were left unprotected and Seattle chose McCann.
So maybe you will next want to say that they should have protected McCann and exposed Holl but we didn’t have the cap space at the time to carry both Kerfoot and McCann.

Dubas managed to only lose a busted prospect and a 7th in expansion and somehow people have spent years now complaining this was a major loss for the team.

I remember this thread. People were over the moon after we got McCann for free, and then were all livid when they realized he was Kerfoot insurance.
He wasn't Kerfoot insurance. He was roster insurance. He allowed us to get through the expansion draft with either an in tact roster or an equivalent roster. Which we accomplished.

If he was so valuable at the time, why did Pittsburgh trade him in the first place? Why didn't one of the 29 other teams offer more than Hallander and a 7th to protect him themselves?

Good for him for taking steps since then and finding success in a situation wildly different than what he would have had here. It's time to move on.

The 2021 expansion draft comes down to protecting Justin Holl instead of Kerfoot, McCann AND some other forward. Holl was (and is) a relatively cheap serviceable RHD defender and had value for the make up of the team and its cap structure.

I saw a clip of the spearing and thought “typical DeAngelo.” And while that’s still true now that I’ve learned it was Perry he got in the family jewels I think he should be let off with just a warning.

The fact that Spezza got 6 games from this bozo and only gave DeAngelo 2 games for intentionally spearing someone is mind blowing and I don't understand how there isn't more backlash against the NHL for keeping this f***** joke of a department.

It makes me irrationally angry and I don't know how someone keeps their job for this.

Jared McCann would’ve been nice in theory, but he also would’ve been priced off the team already.

Also, he wouldn’t be given the same offensive opportunity here so his goal scoring and point totals wouldn’t be directly transferable.

Corey Perry is one of those dirtbag hockey players who acts all nice and polite off the ice. He's known to have intentionally injured several over his career. What goes around comes around.

Certainly inconsistent. Go take a look at the slash Rasmus Anderson took from Ryan Hartman recently. The fact he wasn't suspended is ridiculous.

I always thought Chara was like that. I still remember Chara tried to shove Bolland's head against the boards when he just came back from a concussion

It’s funny obsessing over McCann’s incredibly vanilla game when Hyman only cost 500k more to keep. If we were going to spend 5+ mil on that type of winger, you’d think people would obsess about the homegrown one putting up a ridiculous season instead of the guy getting his Ponikarovski/Antropov points on a team that doesn’t have any big name scorers to compete with.

People do, but then Buntings name just gets brought up and said that he provides what Hyman does at 950K. It's not entirely false but it's also not entirely true. Just depends on what Bunting shows up. No matter what though I'd still take Hyman at what he costs now and Bunting and Liljegren over Bunting, Kerfoot and Holl tbh. Then again people will say Hyman wouldn't do what he's doing over there over here and I'll simply reply by saying then maybe we need to have discussions about coaching and why players get better other places and players get worse/less effective when coming here.

I mean Hyman’s 1st season in Edmonton was below his pace with us. Even this season, his ES goal scoring is the same as usual, he’s just getting 1st unit PP time for the first time and his center is putting up a historic season which is feeding him extra assists. Did Hyman get significantly better in Edmonton? Looks like the same guy we had, just riding McDavid’s likely peak season.

Don’t get me wrong I’d gladly take him back on a short term 5 mil deal, but the guy didn’t just suddenly get a lot better in year 2 in Edmonton because we failed to discover his secret hidden potential lol.

...You think Hyman's big season (that is his 2nd with the Oilers, for the record) has to do with coaching...?
That's certainly an... interesting position.

There's been some talk about McDavid hitting 70 goals.

There's also a decent chance the Oilers don't make the playoffs.

If they both happen, it will be only the second time a player scores 68 or more goals and his team doesn't make the playoffs.

Only other time was in '88 when Lemieux scored 70 but Pittsburgh missed by one point.

Every time I think the HF collective can't get any stupider they find a way to truly surprise me. I'll be bookmarking this one for when Matthews is healthy and returns to form.

The worst are the morons saying 'I wouldn't trade him straight up even not factoring in contracts'
