I know it's not an important stat but I am still surprised Kuch and Stamkos are minus players for the year

Is it only 10 games?

Really, is impressive.

Are their goalies that good, or are they just a more talented team, with better coaching?
They show up almost every night and when they don't they still find a way to win.

They've been an elite defensive team for at least the last 15 years (maybe more). They've been lead by two of the best defensive players of the modern Era in Bergeron and Chara and defensive play and attention to detail from their leaders has got buy in from every player under them.

It's pretty remarkable the impact a couple players like that can have on a team and whole organization. Hard to ignore the message when your leaders don't just talk the talk, they lead by example.

And when guys didn't buy in they were gone. No star player (Kessel, Seguin) was going to be kept around if they weren't prepared to lead, or at least follow the example Chara and Bergeron set.

That's the long answer, the short answer is the goalies are good, average to above average, but they defense makes them elite.

They are also not scared to getting rid of fan favourites like Lucic, Krug, Seguin. They fired their coach last season. Their GM also is new.

So they are continually adapting to win.

Hard to believe that only Marchand, Krejci and Bergeron remain from the team that won the cup and all three players are still playing at a very high level.

Highly unlikely, but it would really be something if Ottawa can sneak into the playoffs in the final seed and upset Boston in the first round. The Sens have had success against them this season.

The Leafs could easily have 10 more points if they bothered showing against some of the basement dwellers they’ve faced only requiring mechanical hard work.

But that’s why the hockey world fawns all over the Bruins and dunk on the Leafs.

Well, they didn't cheap out on their deadline day last year.

But just chosing the right goaltenders.

And of course having assets and cap space.

They didn't offer crippling contracts to their unproven.

I imagine there could have been an alternative solution where a Sandin for Lindholm deal could have been made last year. That would have moved the needle.

I guess no one wants to get in to the playoffs.

Last night Ottawa killed by Chi. Det loses to Philly. Col crushing Pitt.
