I just love that the Leafs are still .600 with their top players playing well below where they should and their two losses were to basement teams that barely were able to beat us.

It is one thing to lose, but Colorado deserved to lose by a lot more than just one goal today.

Why do you love it? The stars underachieving implies more capacity, but at what point do you just want to see them at full potential?

I'm actually shocked with Vancouver's bad start.

They were horrendous in the first half of last year but under BB in the second half they were a totally different team, showing their potential and almost climbing into a WC spot.

I thought they would definitely be pushing hard in that weak division. But wow. I mean you can't make the playoffs in October but you can dig yourself a deep hole early that makes hard to get out of.

And after an off-season promoting culture change, shopping big names, but not making any moves .. Oh boy.

Bedard may be destined to be a Canuck?

You love it because you know before long they will be performing to their expectations. You know soon the PP will start to click as well. So we’ve done ok, despite our best players underperforming, which is a great sign for when they do.

Its funny, because we’ve won games despite both our first line and fourth lines doing rather poorly. I mean, what are we satisfied with, the play of five or six forwards so far? If we can get decent play throughout the lineup, and we’ve been .600 with subpar play and missing key D, it suggests success when we do get things righted.

When are San Jose going into full tank mode? They've had several lousy seasons in a row and have only one top 10 pick to show for it. This is a market the NHL has taken for granted as solid for decades.

Reading between the lines, I think what they’re saying is, they’re little concerned the Leafs are what they are and not what they were hoping for.

In my opinion, they’re still on the schedule to make the playoffs and likely win a round, and nothing has changed since the beginning of camp.

When teams fall into that lackadaisical in-season mode and pay less attention to detail, the Leafs will flourish.

Boy if this was Kadri doing the slashing and cross checking then this would have been a super dangerous play. Luckily for Kuch it wasn't.

The problem with the Sharks is, they have very few assets worth selling at this point. Contracts that are too long, or too rich without withholding significant amounts. But you take Karlsson for example, what type of positive return does a five year, $11.5 mil contract bring? You’d get a pretty good return at 50%, but to withhold for 5 years at $5.75 million is pretty crazy.

What was that thing that Hedman did to Tkachuk? I seem to recognize in my distant memory of watching hockey. I wonder if it has any relation to the 11 playoff series Tampa Bay has won in the past 3 seasons?

I’m more curious to see how the Leafs perform against their own division. They’ve had a pretty soft schedule up to this point.

Curious to see them vs Florida with their defense in tatters, Tampa Bay looking sluggish and Buffalo looking dominant.

They are in full tank mode. The thing that's crazy about this situation is how long their bad contracts are. Even if they won the Bedard sweepstakes and he jumps into the league next year, his second contract will overlap with the Karlsson deal.

Are they in full tank? They re-signed Hertl last year to that long term deal..

Chara finally retired eh?

btw was just browsing NHL contracts. Unless I missed something noticed PK Subban still doesn't have NHL contract. Is he signed by anyone?

Just watched the Wild self-destruct in Boston.

Worst PP I've seen since for quite some time. Two minutes and 50 seconds (includiing 2, 5on3's) of passing around the perimeter. The were better at wasting those 5on3's then the Leafs could.

Then the Wild took 2 dumb penalties, including 1 in overtime to lose the game.

Kaprizov a bit of a no-show this game.

Kraken beat the Avs in Denver!!!!! Avs aren't winning a cup!!!*

* based on HF logic.
Stanley Cup hangover...maybe? Less time off to recover.... they have a lot more excuses for a slow start then the Leafs. If that's what your lying down.

Nah, it was just a lightl-hearted poke at the idea of reading WAY too much into one game, something you see a lot of on HF.

Best case scenario for the Bruins is they kill off the (premature) playoff hopes of teams like the Sens/Sabres but that also their old guys show their age by the end of the season
