The future is bright for New Jersey ..

Hughes-Hischier as your #1-2 down the middle

Meier-Bratt-Mercer-Palat on the wings

But the blue line.. wow:

Hamilton-Siegenthaler-Marino-Nemec-Hughes

They just need to add forward depth and see if Vanacek is that #1 goalie .. he's been solid this year.

Likely to be their only move though. We could arguably have been favoured over TB even before the ROR trade was made.

I just like the way Tampa operates, this trade just makes them so much deeper and more physical.

I understand it’s an overpayment but Tampa knows what helps you win in the playoffs and that is intimidation and physical play and they’ve doubled down on it. Every line on Tampa is going to be running us down lol. I hope our skill prevails but it’s going to be tough.

Foote and 5 picks including a 1st and 2nd for Jeannot? Madness.

Tampa always pulls out the stupidest trades and it works for them.

Keefe hears about the Jeanott trade to Tampa,....takes a peice of paper, prints out a 4th line of........Clifford-Hunt-Simmonds,.then crumples it, and writes down the name "Tom Wilson" he folds the paper into a paper airplane and tosses it to Dubas. lol

Oh, I get why they did it, I guess for me I look at their D-Core and after the top 2-3 it starts to drop off substantially, and they have little NHL quality depth.

Jeannot was IMO a luxury add that didn't address their main issue.

I’m actually thinking Boston and Tampa overpaid in response to the ROR deal.
I'm thinking exactly this. Teams had to think that by not making a move, it would have sent the wrong message to those teams.

I don't think Boston overpaid, although they would have if that rumored Gavrikov deal went through. Orlov is a legit top pairing guy though
I don't think in a vacuum that it's a huge overpay for Orlov, but seeing as they already had Lindholm for top pairing, and the drop off wasn't bad after that, I think it's a steep price for what I would consider an incremental upgrade more than an impactful one.

The Leafs upgrades with ROR and Acciari are more impactful at a similar price point.

Undecided on what Orlov means to Boston. They certainly added more D to a team that doesn't need it, but we'll see if it moves the needle any more for them, not that they need to move the needle.

Orlov would have been a bigger addition for us though.

It's interesting to see the West watch the East picking up all the big names so the top 6 can go to war with each other knowing only one will make it through after a brutal three rounds. Especially if Kane goes to NYR and TO makes another noteworthy move.

It's hard not to see it that way.

Dubas' got ahead and (especially in comparison to Tampa) got his main guys at a very acceptable cost.

With a week to go, Dubas still reserves the right to one up the Orlov and Jeannot deals. Hopefully by getting something good off the sales rack when everything is priced to go.

Dubas did well being the first mover. The Jeannot trade is gross and we basically got a Conn Smythe, Selke winning C PLUS Acciari for the same price.
They traded the equivalent of 2 1sts, plus a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. So that's arguably a 1st and a 5th more, but the Leafs also paid roughly a 3rd and a 4th to get double retention.

That Tampa deal is unspeakably bad when their real need IMO was more experienced NHL calibre D depth.

It won’t be if they win the cup
That the deals teams make when they want to win now
Their very low level picks aren’t worth anything today in terms of winning now
Tampa overpaid for a guy that’s on a cheap contract that they will have after this uear
Leafs say they won’t trade 1st or high prospects for rentals yet here we are

If ur all in as others are then leafs better not be done!!!
