If you have one of the best goaltending performances in the league and you're still a bottom tier team that's not likely to even make the playoffs because of how messed up the rest of the team is, then yeah, I don't think that team should be spending significant futures on rentals.

Imagine how much dumber Lou looks if that 1st turns into a Seth Jarvis.

We don’t know the complete story around the firing of Trotz, but they made a big mistake and it looks like it may cost them dearly.

They have a puncher's chance of making the playoffs. Certainly adding Horvat didn't hurt their chances. Can't blame them for ... Trying to win.

NYI's have the 2nd best team sv% at .922 behind only Boston.

Isles have 55 points after 52 games (with 30 games remaining) and they're 2 points behind Pittsburgh but only 3 points behind Washington (same # of games played) for a WC playoff spot.

"Defense wins Championships" and Lou Lam knows with top end goaltending all he needs to do is make the playoffs to have an opportunity.

What the NYI's need is more offense and they just added the #8 OA goal scorer

What they probably needed was to retain Trotz.

Anyway, yep got Horvat on the cheap if they re-sign him.

Not sure he'll re-sign there though, but I'm sure they'll pay big to keep him as Lou's pretty loose with the money, and more focused on your personal grooming.

Where are you getting these stats? Is this 5v5? I ask because every site you can name has the Isalnders 6th in save % as well as the Leafs 8th.

Funny how you chose this to use where the Leafs are missing from the top ten and the Islanders are somehow 2nd

My guess would be that the other sites (Fox, Statsmuse, Natural Stat Trick) are not subtracting empty net goals.

Leafs S% is .03 % higher on ESPN and NHL

Islanders goal differential is about 18th. best in the league.
Leafs are 4th. best.

Probably hoping Horvat can put some in the net, and get them into respectible territory.

I doubt they are worried about that. Lots of time to sign him and if it doesn’t work out they can flip him for likely a better return than they paid.
I know the DDL likes to make fun of Lou but he’s seen it all and will react accordingly

Agreed Horvat landing with Boston or Tampa Bay would have been really bad for the Leafs.

100% and I also think it’s Lou being Lou and saying “you have until today to decide or this deal is off the table” or if “if I hear about this deal being shopped it’s off the table”. To be honest I think they got the best possible deal anyways, any team that says they would offer more for a pending UFA you can’t negotiate an extension for prior to completing the deal is lying.
